La Vert Pomme

Here’s the process I went through to draw the back cover to the first issue of the Professor Frink comic book (posted in reverse chronological order). The Creative Director, Nathan Kane, asked me to sketch up a few versions of a possible cover that was outrageous and would work well in 3D (red and blue 3D glasses are included in each issue!).

The drawing of doing his big dance pose was approved and you can see I started to clean it up. But I just wasn’t happy with it. So I scrapped the whole thing and redrew it from memory on paper. Switching it up like that really allowed me to make a much better composition and a much better illustration that would work well in 3D.

I sent the new drawing back to Nathan and he gave some draw-over notes. Of course the music notes should be bigger! He’s always good at catching stuff like that and plussing work. The finished thing in 3D looks really cool.
