A lot of folks put a lot of emphasis on memories and there's a lot of discussion around memories itself. That isn't a requirement. You may have no memories, or memories that don't line up to canon, ones that contradict canon, or be completely unrelated. For example: one of my kintypes has almost no memories but I still get other alterhuman feelings like my body not being like I remember, a longing for home, so on. But another one, from the Life series, has many memories that involve specific players and things we did. Memories don't make an identity any more or less real, so don't worry about it too much.

Related to that: don't force a memory out. Its okay if you get them wrong, there is no lying taking place and its about your experiences, but it can make it muddy later on. You may find them brought out by a random thing or have a sensory input that reminds you of that kintype. This is normal. You may not have an immediate answer, but that's kind of how memories work for this life too. Strong smells can connect you to a certain time or location, so sometimes 'kin memories are the same. Take it easy and you'll find answers somewhere.

If you're spiritual in your alterhumanity, however, I encourage you to use whatever methods you already do. If you're asking a help blog for readings regarding it, just take it with a grain of salt. Other folks want to help so they aren't likely to try and mislead you, but remember another being is doing these things on your behalf so maybe it isn't quite accurate. Use your own reasoning when navigating something like this.

You don't have to connect to sourcemates if you don't want to (others from the same media). While there is a big community and others who want to meet, it isn't required. I would urge you to be careful finding canonmates though -- basically beings with the same memories who are looking for others from their canon; canon can mean universe, reality, or however they refer to it. I only say this because it can become and endless task trying to line up every tiny detail, and it can usually have a romantic subtext to it: not always, but it can be a bit uncomfortable. So you may end up with an unending task or a situation that is awkward (especially if you're aroacespec in this life). Or sometimes you will have a canonmate and pressure yourself to get along, even if you don't like them right now. NEVER put your feelings aside for the sake of another alterhuman and wanting somebody to connect to. You should always keep yourself safe and make sure you're happy with who they are now.

Related to that ^, don't isolate yourself. Try to make friends with fictionfolk from other sources (so in this case, other Servers). Or fictionkin from completing unrelated sources. Its good to see what others feel in relation to their identity.

You will also see that the fictionkin and fictive spaces tend to overlap. Don't worry about it. This has been a thing for a long time and the plural community overlaps with the alterhuman community already. Some folks may act iffy about it and treat fictives as "more serious" for whatever reason and try to divide the groups, but we've stuck together for a long time. Partially because our identities are both seen as "less serious" in comparison to the main part of the community, but also because our connection to fiction is a unique experience. Both of them have been seen as a way to fakeclaim a general experience so, yeah, the communities tend to stick close due to that similarity. You aren't doing anything wrong if you interact with a fictive as a fictionkin (or vice versa) (and of course: you can be both at the same time).

I will also stress that being fictionfolk / fictionkin is a serious identity to a lot of folks and, while "kin" has been watered down to refer to just being like a character, it holds the same weight as being therian, otherkin, otherhearted, etc. Which also means you get terms like fictionhearted, fictionlinker, etc. If you aren't fictionkin, but are fictionhearted (for example), there is no shame in that. Your identity is just as valid. The language you use to refer to the experience should be respected as much as other parts of the community. It is a real thing to experience. So if anyone makes any remarks about it, they need to read up on Otherkin history.

Finally: you may feel differently about the origin of your fictionkin identity to your other ones. This is normal. For me, I have a plurality of thought behind my identities. I view some of them as a life in the future, and some that have happened; some of them are having a respite from that life in my soul (ambiguous term), and some of them are purely of psychological origin. Having these thoughts, feelings, or philosophies is not a sign of faking it. It is a little common for even therians to have different feelings regarding their theriotypes. So having a new idea based on a new identity is. normal? Especially when its new and you're still questioning it.
