One Day at a Time

Readers aren’t obligated to comment at all, but all fic authors are looking for some encouragement or reinforcement that they’re still doing a great job and readers are still enjoying the story/journey. Anxious to warm Felicity up, Oliver approaches the bed and slips the rubber bottle under the sheets and places it near Felicity's lower abdomen.

That will help but she needs a greater source of heat. Oliver has postponed getting to this point, trying to save Felicity and him from what surely will be an awkward predicament but this is an emergency. He only hopes that Felicity won't think he took advantage of the situation to get handsy without her consent.

They’d all told her that he was dead. 

The informal letter from the US Army expressing condolences for her loss, the empty platitudes of gratitude for a service well done. She’d burned the letter. 

John Diggle, his commanding officer, had shown up at her door with grief in his eyes and apologies on his lips. She’d slammed the door in his face. 

Roy Harper, the boy who’d followed him to war, who worshiped the very ground he’d walked on, who’d lost an arm that very day, in the same battle, by the very same explosion that had taken his life, who sobbed with pain and horror-filled memories– she’d listened, hugged, comforted, but refused to be convinced.

Work had been nothing short of hectic. Felicity had been working on launching new tech, and she really wanted to get the bulk of the project done before the end of the week. Though the more she thought about helping her son finish up packing, and taking him to school across the country, the more she wished she could use the Legends timeship and get away from it all. 

She could go back to when William and Mia were young. God how had five years passed so quickly? How could they have one kid ready for college and the other about to start kindergarten? When had they both grown up so much?

She shook her head as pushed open the front door. Before she finished stepping out of her heels, she heard her daughter yelling from the floor above. 

“You’re dumb and I hate you!” Mia’s voice came through clear, just before a door slammed.

The skies outside the airport terminal were actually turning green. Felicity huffed a frustrated sigh. “What about tomorrow?” A snarky smile appeared and then vanished from the other woman’s face. “The airport won’t be open tomorrow. Or the next day. We’ll be lucky to be operational by the end of the week.” She stuck a hand on her hip behind the counter. “I suggest you find a hotel to hunker down in. Preferably on a high floor.”

Felicity took a long sip of her, admittedly, too sweet, sugary latte as she plopped her bag down on the empty table, claiming it for herself and Curtis. He followed a moment later, two pastries and his own black coffee in his hands.

It had been a long week and they were both enjoying a quiet breakfast date at their favorite coffee shop. The two of them had been best friends since their time at MIT, but with their busy jobs at Queen Consolidated and Palmer Tech—not to mention Curtis recently getting married!—they just hadn’t had the time to hang out like they used to. Hence, Curtis declaring Saturday morning’s date night, so to speak.

He handed her her cinnamon roll and sat down in his chair, before jumping slightly. “Ow!”

Felicity put her breakfast down, taking a seat herself as Curtis reached beneath him to pull out a sleek, black cellphone—sans case. She was just pulling in a breath to start in on a lecture—because why wouldn’t someone put a case on their phone? It was a delicate piece of technology that needed protection!—when she noticed the strange look Curtis was giving it.

“Guess someone lost it,” he said with a shrug, placing it on the table.

Felicity took another sip of her drink before reaching over to give the phone a look. It was the latest Q-phone and, despite working for the company that made it, she was a little in awe at actually be holding one in her hands. They were crazy expensive, far outside her budget, but the technology that Queen Consolidated had included in this edition had almost tempted her to splurge.

She tapped the screen with her finger, lighting up the display. There was no personalized background photo, just the blue gradient that came stock. She was about to take it up to the counter to turn it in to lost and found when it buzzed, a green text bubble popping up on screen.

Where are you?

Then another, Ollie this isn’t funny! I’m going to kill you!

She tapped the bubble, a message popping up prompting her for a password.

Ethically, she knew she should just turn the phone in at the counter, finish her breakfast date with Curtis, and go about her Saturday. But, curiosity always had gotten the best of her and today was no different, so, working her magic—she was a computer genius, after all—she hacked into the phone.

I haven’t watched a single minute of the Crisis Crossover, but after scrolling through my timeline I’m still depressed and a little sick to my stomach, so I can only imagine what everyone who has been watching this season feel.

In the spirit of cheering us Olicity fans up, I’m plugging Cannon Alternative Fanfiction.  

AKA Cannon Divergent Fanfiction/stories (preferably long multichapters) that are true to cannon up to a specific point and then diverge and give us the Happy Ever After we all deserve.  

This fandom is lucky to have a gluttony of Beautifully written AUs, but only a small portion of them fall into this category.

This is my all-time favorite type of Fanfiction and the reason I came to Fanficiton in the first place so it really isn’t surprising that almost all my fics fall into this category (the only story I’ve written that is fully AU is To Sacrifice the Sun.)

So here’s my Shameless plug part of this post with a list of my own Cannon Alternatives:

1.       Forever is Composed of Nows @dust2dust34 @so-caffeinated - definitely the most famous of Olicity Cannon Alternatives, probably because its one of the best written and the most complete Universe if you want immerse yourself in a life Oliver and Felicity deserve.

2.       Infinite Love Universe- @realityisoverrated-fic I’m adding this because I really think it’s incredibly well written long term Universe that falls nicely into this category.  But I’ll warn you it’s not really Olicity, It’s Smoking Billionaires, but no one has ever done a closed triad better and it’s beautiful.

3.       Devil’s Backbone- @anthfan  by Anthfan- is a sexy alternative to season 3 and it haunts me. Probably inspired DLMG

4.    little wonders (twists and turns of fate) @alexiablackbriar13 diverges between season 4 and 5 with the 5x20 flashback and deserves a large part of the credit for getting me back into Olicity this fall and allowing Air to be posted.

I’m seriously so excited about these next two chapters (this and especially next Sunday’s) that I’ve been in a To Sacrifice the Sun haze all week.   

I’ve gotten a ton of work done on it.  The end is actually in sight.  It’s crazy, I’m not sure I ever thought it would come.
