i'm right where you left me

Walking through the crowd of people, Carlin winced as the prop bow that she had made snagged a little on someone else’s costume, carefully moving away. “Oh shoot, sorry. Should have thought through bringing a bow to this event. But it really fit the aesthetic of this character. A completely necessary one. I just need to recognize the width of this thing.” She said with a soft laugh and a shrug. 

“you’re totally fine!!” laurel said looking back at her costume and noticing it didn’t rip or anything. “see? nothing.” she smiled at the women and then chuckled. “hey- i love the arrow! it adds a nice touch.” 

“wow- look at you! your costume looks amazing. i’m a big disney fan myself.” the blonde said looking over at the younger women. “i’m surprised more people didn’t dress up as disney characters - but then again, neither did i. i went with a classic this year.” 

Juliette couldn’t offer much more than a shrug when Laurel asked how she had been doing. “I’m managing,” she said simply. What was there to say? They weren’t really close enough that she was going to tell her the deep stuff. “I’m not in prison anymore, so I guess that’s a perk,” she said. She hadn’t seen her since before her arrest a few years ago. “How are you?”

“i’m sure you’re happy about that. i can’t imagine jail is a nice place to be..” laurel said as she cleared her throat. to be honest, she had no idea what to say. what are you suppose to say when someone brings up they had been in jail. “i’ve been good. just busy with work and you know, taking care of my dad after his heart attack.” 

“Oh well this show that I was watching is like an online DnD session. A bunch of friends who are also voice actors have been playing dnd on stream for years now. And something went very wrong and it made me sad. But the acting was so good and the storyline is just…amazing.” Carlin explained. “What sorts of shows do you like? Maybe I can offer a rec based on that?”

“oh that sounds interesting.. i’ve never heard of it. though, i don’t watch much tv these days. pretty much breathe, eat and work.” laurel chuckled and then titled her head, as she was thinking. “hm, i’ve been re-watching charmed lately. i love shows with witches and stuff, even more so around halloween. i’m a HUGE halloween person. how about you?” 

“Sounds terrifying, though. A nineteen-year-old who actually has their shit together? Isn’t that like some kind of oxymoron or something?” She let out a soft laugh, even though she was currently super stressed about the situation. “Thank you for that sage advice. I’ll try to keep it in mind.”

“that kind of does sound terrifying. coming from someone who had no idea what they were going to do when they were 19.” the blonde laughed, as she remembered what it was like to be young and have no idea what the future held. “of course. i can try to give sage advice, but i’m not sure it will always be good.” 

“For Halloween this year, I’m going to dress up as someone who has their shit together and isn’t a hot mess.” For the semester only having just started not long ago, Annabelle already found herself struggling. “Who said taking five classes at one time was a good idea?”

“that doesn’t sound like a very fun costume, if you ask me.” laurel said looking at the younger brunette and then closing the magazine, she had currently been reading. “you’re young, you should dress up as something fun!! don’t worry about having your life together - it’s overrated anyways.” 

Addison frowned hearing her name being called from across the room. When the voice got closer, the redhead turned around slowly and said, “Thirty seconds. That’s all you get. Go.”

“oh sorry- you’re busy!” laurel said and placed the chart down on the nurses station before clearing her throat. “i was just going to see if you’ve seen my dad anywhere? he’s suppose to be in the ER working, but I didn’t see him down there.” 

“You know the saying ‘my favorite fictional characters are dead’? Well I swear to gosh no one fits that bill more than I do. I feel like I can’t watch a show without my favorite character kicking the bucket.” Carlin said with a pout as she dropped down onto the seat next to the individual she was speaking with. Her head dropped back and she let out a groan. “I was watching something last week and it made me cry so much.”

“that’s what happens! they make you get attached to these characters, so you watch the show more and then bam, they kill them off.” laurel shook her hed, as she leaned back in her seat before smiling. “what show were you watching? i’ve been looking for some new shows to watch, not that i have a lot of free time anymore between this job and sleeping.” the blonde chuckled

With her back pressed up against a tree, Juliette sat alone in the park, her guitar in her lap. She didn’t have any work that day, so she was taking advantage. Music was always her best distraction. She wasn’t going to be able to see her dealer until that night, and she needed something to keep her mind off of the desperation she felt to use. She had been working on a few original songs since she had gotten released from prison. Working out a new riff, she thought it sounded okay, but she was always a little more insecure about her solo stuff, especially on an acoustic rather than her electric. She wasn’t paying much attention to anything else as she jotted things down on the paper next to her, until she glanced up and saw someone looking at her. “Can I help you?”

laurel was exploring the park on her day off and boy was it a nice day for stroll in the park. as she got closer, laurel noticed juliette sitting underneath the tree and it had been awhile since she had last spoken to the other women. “i was just coming over to say hi. i noticed you sitting here while i was sitting on the bench over there.” the blonde pointed to the area where she had been sitting, before getting up. “its been awhile since i last saw you, how are you doing?”
