Moved on from painting to Illustrator, where I selected some GORGEOUS bright colours ~ inspired by Richard Bernstein’s personal choices in his works, and started creating weird gradients. 

This technique of using points and lines was sort of working, but it was taking to long to figure out so I went hunting for a tutorial and found this one, teaching how to use a gradient mesh https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8hJlffeGkmo, in conjunction with the direct selection tool to place the colours in the mesh I created. 

and being happy with these colours and this reflective-ishness, I moved on to creating the front cover. 

I really fancied this photo of Bernstein, seemed like an appropriate front cover image but it was really low quality, which took away from the fullness of colour. (https://www.morrisonhotelgallery.com/photographs/Xrh11n/Richard-Bernstein-NY-1969)

Found this other image (https://richardbernsteinart.com/richard/about.html) which is higher quality, and not as dark, which suited the colours and the theme more, as I found black to be too harsh of a contrast. 

Next came the title! I wanted to follow along that Interview magazine style.

Here is what my zine currently looks like, I decided to do an interactive zine. 

My subject of choice is Jean-Michel Basquiat. At first I was only drawn to his art style and the story behind it, but his take on the art industry fascinates me. His journey to being recognized in the art industry was not easy and I decided to dig a little deeper for this project. I have to say, he’s now one of my favourite artist! 

For this week’s tutorial, Ben discussed on a topic about Punk Culture. The culture was somehow merged with the art movement at that era. I found that the sex pistols interesting since they made a very controversial song. “These are fun songs. Done for a laugh. God Save The Queen? It’s kind of high camp, in a way,” said Sex Pistols singer John Lydon in 2002. -The Telegraph. The song is interesting because it was BANNED in 1977 by the BBC because it shares the name of the British national anthem. 

In the week 2 of the course, me and my classmates enjoyed an interesting visit to the Melbourne Art Book Fair at the NGV. I realized that it’s really important to consult and refer about the majors that we are looking for.This is my first time experiencing an exhibition about art and design books, such a great feeling! There are a lot of stalls in this place, each of them representing a specific area in the design world such as: architecture, photagraphy, interior, graphic,etc (shown in photo). Specifically, almost of these stuff were made by students in RMIT, not only books but they also created the tote bag, badges, etc. We hung around in this place, read and found out some engaging books which were helpful for us in our pathway. I was so inspired and admired by their creative and unique ideas which I believed that are significant perspectives in terms of successful design work. Furthermore, the way they ultilise their skills, develop their mind in art effectively brings me good insights on this fantastic journal. These new insights led me to the deeper understanding that the art world is diverse and unlimited creation, so we should open our mind to catch up on some new and creative initiatives from other artists which express our respect and also gain lessons for ourselves. This journal was really useful so that I can apply in my studies in the near future.
