and if i told you rewatching john carpenter’s 1982 masterpiece the thing has gotten me through one of the worst depressive episodes of my life

#literally have been watching the thing more frequently than I’ve been drinking water #(this is how u get uti and kidney stones)#this movie has worked better than my ativan in helping me calm down #makes me so unnecessarily happy when blair freaks out and destroys the radio room #or when mac comes back after having his line cut #and norris opening up and eating copper’s hands and his head falls off and grows crab-spider legs #and the dog kennel ABHRIENDNEKJENDKDN #after i got to my grandma’s and stayed with her for weeks out of fear #watched the thing nearly every day i was there #coming home after my dad nearly wrecked the car driving drunk #came home and watched the thing #multiple suicide scares from both siblings #comfort them then watch the thing to comfort myself #bored at home delirious on painkillers for insane kidney pain #watched the thing all week #scared at the hospital bc hooked up to an IV for the second time this year at 3 in the morning and you don’t know what’s wrong with you #bring macready doll everywhere but the place you get the CT scan #period stopping and vomitting because of so much stress #watch the thing with my cat to put myself to sleep

everyone is always mesmerized by the incredible haircut of MacReady (understandably so) but I was also equally in awe of Nauls and his rollerskates that just appeared in like one scene

I hate the ‘Macready was assimilated the entire time’ theories because it ignores one teensy weensy but ever so crucial detail-

why the fuck would he have been trying to kill himself if he was also a thing

#dumbest theory i hear abt the movie #like i can understand MAYBE at the end after the explosion #but being almost the only person in the group to take action against the things #like why would he even gaf abt trying to contain it or insist on testing IN THE FIRST PLACE #the movie would’ve ended a lot more quickly if not for Mac constantly interfering and wanting the tests and stuff #if he was the thing he’d be actively trying to prevent investigation #like in the original script where the thing killed fuchs for getting too close to revealing them
