ALL OF THE DIPS

[spoilers for Pride (2014) if you haven't watched it yet - please do!]

while i don't watch it every month i did watch it non-stop when i finally got the film on DVD hehe. It is very much one of my all time favourite films. It's such a beautiful retelling of a real life story. While there are obviously some tragic/bittersweet moments, the overall the focus on community and coming together means so much to me :')) and gkfjgfkjgf i totally get the feeling getting mad when people watch it with less sincerity...

and oh gooosh that scene........... after Hefina says 'I know' in response, I absolutely adore the range of emotions you see Bill Nighy/Cliff go through before settling on a relieved smile :')) his absolute fumbling of the sandwiches too just adds to the very Human moment of the scene

and in regards to my favourite part... there's honestly so many to chose from...including this one I wrote about a few years ago... but currently I think the one that first comes to mind upon my recent rewatch might have to be when Dai first visits the gay bar in London to personally thank the community for donating to the LGSM... gosh... the little music sting you hear as he's talking... the focus on Gethin and Johnathan and the subtle moment you notice they drop their defences of this outsider entering their safe space... ...all of it just really got to me this time round and I started crying immediately ♡(╥﹏╥) Also made me reminisce to when I first watched this film in the cinema back in 2014 at 18-years-old... as a baby queer still figuring out myself... not really having any idea about all the queer people who came before me... and how now that I'm older, I can appreciate this moment even more because I've been lucky enough to feel that kind of 'best feeling in the world' Dai talks about more during the scene:

ALSO sorry, mandatory phannie tangent — while I don’t want to take away from the importance of this moment in the film, or from its real-life context, I would absolutely love to create an animation, comic, or video edit using this quote from the scene:

“[...] because what you’ve given us is more [...] — it’s friendship. [...] When you’re in a battle against an enemy so much bigger, so much stronger than you — to find out you had a friend you never knew existed — well, that’s the best feeling in the world [...]”

Community, friendship, and “battles” can exist in so many different forms — be it offline or online, external or internal. That’s why I can so easily imagine this quote being applied to the bond between D&P and the phandom - I’d want to just highlight the impact that they’ve obviously had on all of us, but also the impact we’ve had on them :] ♡

Like any friendship, our relationship with D&P has been… messy at times. It isn’t traditional by any means — it’s parasocial, mostly online (aside from tour happenings), and complicated by the fact that ~Dan & Phil~ is also technically a brand used to sell things to us. But idk… maybe that complexity is exactly what makes it so unique, and when you pair all that with how unapologetically queer it is too? how powerful of a connection so many people feel towards these two people and the community they accidentally created? Maybe that’s what makes it worth treasuring and celebrating 😊

Hopefully one day I’ll be able to express all of this better through the power of ART, but… do you get me…? (ˊ͈ ꒳ ˋ͈ ) I just love this film so much, and I’d love to mush it together with something else I love – in order to make something new :’3
