As part of my promise that I won't be *totally* negative, I will say that I just manage to surpass my total yearly views for 2025 the other day, just under halfway through the year. Genuinely insane, especially given I just went on hiatus, so thank you all so much. I know it's perhaps elitist and snobby of me to be like "Oh the entire fandom sucks but not people who read hit critic (citation need) Lara S. Ramblings" but I really am legitimately proud of the community of kind, sensitive and intelligent readers that I have.
Even if you've never left a substantial message or comment or anything, it does mean a lot to me that I've been able to do and achieve all I have with my blog in an age where genuine human media criticism is increasingly devalued if not outright attacked. And yes, I do think the modern fandom ecosystem is guilty of, at the very least, aiding and abetting a lot of those attacks. Consider Lara's Ramblings an attempt at defining an ecological niche of my own, then.
For my money, it's doing pretty good so far.
Here's to another eight and a half years, and I'll see you when I get through the burnout.
Know I only posted it a day ago but I'm reblogging because I'd rather my last (for now) post be a positive note. In spite of everything, I couldn't be prouder of what I've achieved, both on this site and on WordPress as a whole. None of my venom here is directed at the community that has sprung up around Lara's Ramblings on the whole, I remain indescribably proud of the lot of you.
If I could ask one last favour, please do read The Infinity Doctors post if you haven't already. I know it's a long one, so it's a bit of a big ask, but it's genuinely one of my favourite pieces of writing I've ever done and I do think it deserves more than the 23 views it's currently sitting at. I very much tailor-made it to serve as a full stop under everything that had come before, with Where Angels Fear possibly serving as a minor postscript (she says about the 13,000 word post).
The date is September 12, 1994. Whigfield is at number one with “Saturday Night,” having finally unseated Wet Wet Wet’s “Love Is All Around”
And of course, the Ko-fi. I know it's perhaps silly to ask for donations when I'm on hiatus, and I know times remain tight for a lot of people, so this is by no means an obligation. But, y'know. It's there.
Become a supporter of Lara's Ramblings today!
Once again, thank you all. I know I've been extremely bitter of late, but I hope I can once more find the joy and passion that writing this stuff used to give me a lot more easily. I sure as hell don't know that I'm going to be finding it in the larger Doctor Who community on Tumblr. So let's call this a temporary farewell, but not necessarily a permanent goodbye.
