Kind of in-depth opinions on some inside out ships nobody asked for but me just so I can delete it from my phone
I loved their chemistry in the second movie, they interacted a surprising amount when I first saw it. I noticed Joy is always touching Anger in some way, and unlike when the other emotions do it, he never seems to mind. I also loved the moment when he stood up for her while she was trying to convince those mind workers to go against Anxiety.
I think they work so well together because they're both action-oriented emotions in some way. Instead of encouraging Riley to avoid problems, they push her to act. I also think it's really cute how Joy is almost always the one calming Anger down. Either it works or he just grumbles and goes along with it anyway, which makes it seem like no matter what he'll end up listening to Joy anyway.
I think they're cute. I love how much more Joy acknowledges Sadness in the sequel, especially during the scene where she takes her to the Belief System for the first time. She even encourages Sadness to come with her, which is such a nice contrast to how she treated her in the first movie.
They spend more time apart than together in the sequel, but I liked that Sadness was the first to join Joy in hugging Riley's Sense of Self. I also liked when Joy told Sadness she was strong before she went up the tube. It's not completely off the table for me, but I still mostly see them as really close friends.
I don't see much of this ship, but I can't see them as anything more than friends. I did enjoy the scene where they started fangirling over the high school coach, and I thought it was sweet when Disgust dusted off Joy's dress after she almost fell into the sarcasm. Those moments were fun, but that's about as far as I see them. There was that one short where Joy kept intentionally grossing Disgust out just to get her away from the console so she could make Riley eat the blueberry that she dropped.
I feel like Joy would be the only one who's really good at bringing out a braver side of Fear, and I think she'd be one of, if not his first, go-to whenever it comes to issues regarding himself or Riley. Whenever Fear freaks out, he usually goes to Joy and frantically shakes her. But again, I think they work much better as friends than anything more.
Joy and Anxiety feel very one-sided to me. I can see Anxiety having a crush on Joy, but I can't see Joy returning those feelings. If anything, I feel like Anxiety wants to be Joy's number one co-worker type of thing. It gives me a bit of a teacher's-pet dynamic, where Anxiety is constantly looking for Joy's approval and wanting to impress her, and of course Joy appreciates it.
They are really funny together, but that's about it, lol. Sometimes Fear grabs onto Anger and clings to him when he's scared, which is pretty wholesome. But then again, Anger also likes to beat up and strangle Fear, so uhh not exactly husband material. (Joking).
There are so few interactions between them that I don’t really have a strong opinion on what kind of relationship they could have. The only moment that really comes to mind is when Joy was telling Sadness how she knew how to crawl through the tube because she had read the manuals, and Anger just nodded along with a small smile. Other than that, there isn’t much between them for me to form a solid opinion on.
If I'm gonna be completely honest, this is probably one of the ships I go with the least, (aside from any ships with Envy or Nostalgia). They give off really strong sibling energy to me, and most of their interactions with each other are either somewhat negative or just normal, everyday interactions rather than anything that feels romantic. I'm also gonna ignore the fact that someone found art of them making out from a Pixar animator because that's a whole thing I don't really want to get into lmao.
I just feel like if they were actually dating, they'd spend more time arguing and bickering than bonding.
I've seen some art of these two, and I kind of like it. I think it's fun. I like to imagine Ennui would just constantly ragebait Anger, and he would easily fall for it every time. That would probably be how their dynamic works in any sort of relationship.
Same with Sadness and Anger, they don't really have many interactions together. The only thing I can think of is when Fear pulled Sadness to the side when Anxiety appeared. But I will never forget when Fear shoved Sadness out of the way in that short clip of the emotions testing Anger's patience. That was so unnecessary 😭.
So my viewpoint on them kinda changed. I still think they're cute, and Fear obviously seems to like her in some way, but after rewatching the second movie, I realized Anxiety really does not gaf about him LOL. They also just met, so it makes sense that there isn't much of anything between them yet. If there's anymore Inside Out content in the future, there could be more interactions between them and maybe get a better idea of how they work together.
If they were to get together, they'd be the perfect example of girlboss x male wife hehe. Fear is always rambling, while Disgust is always unbothered. They have a lot more moments in the second movie than the first, like when Fear grabbed her hand when she almost fell off the balloon. After she looked back at him he pulled her up and brought her really close to him. Disgust was also in his lap after they landed, and you can see her still holding onto him, which is kinda cute when you realize that's the first time Disgust held Fear for safety. Fear even put his hand over hers when they were about to explode the dynamite, which could just be because he has really long fingers and nowhere else to put it, but STILL.
There was also an ad-lib of Fear confessing to Disgust at the end of the first movie that didn't make it in. Amy Poehler even said they made sense when it comes to that kind of relationship LOL.
Sadness clearly has some sort of attraction towards Embarrassment, and he always acts bashfully around her in the short clips I've seen of them. Sadness even fluttered her eyelashes at him in one clip, so that says something. I'm pretty sure they're in the early stages of something, whether that be romantic or platonic, but aside from canon, I just think they're cute.
This is funny. I think they made Disgust have such a hard on for Lance because Riley is trying to tell herself that it's disgusting to have a crush on a video game character? or something along those lines? Idk I'm not smart, but this also kind of brings up the concept that emotions can have some sorta feelings towards other kinds of beings in the mind. Lance pretty much likes her back too, so I don't know if this was all just meant to be a gag or if Pixar is legitimately trying to push something between the two of them.
