Jan 18 - Lana speaks to Pitchfork about a new song called “Bartender” that “doesn’t belong to a record yet”.

Feb 8 - During a visit at the Ryan Seacrest Foundation, Lana composes a short ukelele song with four chords titled “Starry Eyed”. She promises to finish this song and to dedicate it to the foundation.

Feb 16 - At a show in San Diego, Lana announces the title of a song called “Sylvia”, inspired by writer Sylvia Plath, leading people to think she has been working on a new project.

Feb 24 - Lana is seen in the studio with the producer Jack Antonoff during an Instagram livestream.

Feb 26 - Lana is seen with Marina Diamandis and Jack Antonoff.

Mar 7 - Lana spends time with Marina Diamandis, Florence Welch and FKA Twigs, leading to rumours of a possible collaboration.

Mar 30 - Lana posts a video to her Instagram playing a song that is now known as “Happiness Is A Butterfly”.

May 10 - An unknown song is played in the background of her sister Chuck’s Instagram story.

Sep 7 - Lana announces the release of two “end of summer jams”.

Sep 12 - “Mariners Apartment Complex” is released. 

During an interview with Annie Mac on BBC Radio 1, Lana confirms that she has been working on a new album with the producer Jack Antonoff since December 2017, which is due to be released in early 2019 (most likely between January and March). 

She also plans to release a self-published poetry book right beforehand.

Lana explains that the album was “in the vein of a Laurel Canyon sound” but has “transformed a little bit because there are some surf elements to some of the songs”. She also says that the album is not “really surf-y like Dick Dale” but features a lot of electric guitars with a little Red Hot Chili Peppers influence.

Sep 18 - “Venice Bitch” is released.

During an interview with Zane Lowe on Beats1, Lana announces that the album will be titled Norman Fucking Rockwell. It will have 11 tracks, one being a title track. She says she might release a third, “serious” song in October.
