𝐁𝐄𝐋𝐋𝐀'𝐒  𝐓𝐑𝐀𝐍𝐒𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐌𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍  𝐃𝐈𝐃  𝐍𝐎𝐓  𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐄  without  its  costs.  Although  there  were  the  obvious  ones—trading  her  human  life  and  all  that  came  with  it  for  immortality—there  was  an  even  bigger  consequence  of  the  change.  After  Renesmee  was  born  and  Edward  bit  Bella  in  several  places  upon  her  body  just  to  save  her  life,  she  began  her  transformation  and  was  incapacitated  for  three  days.  During  those  three  days,  Bella  missed  most,  if  not  all,  of  Renesmee’s  baby  stage.  

Renesmee  was  an  anomaly;  something  unknown  and  new  and  not  quite  understood.  The  Cullens  had  never  witnessed  a  child  born  from  a  human  and  a  vampire,  and  so  there  was  no  way  they  could  have  foreseen  how  rapidly  she  would  grow.  By  the  time  Bella  woke  up  from  her  transformation,  Renesmee  was  already  a  toddler,  walking  and  communicating  through  the  use  of  her  gift.  

It  hurts  Bella  deeply  that  she  missed  out  on,  perhaps,  the  most  important  bonding  moments  of  Renesmee’s  life.  Many  of  Rensemee’s  firsts  passed  by  in  those  first  three  days  without  Bella  there  to  witness  any  of  them.  Because  of  this,  she  envies  Edward  and  the  rest  of  the  family  a  little.  They  all  got  to  spend  precious  moments  with  Rensemee  in  her  first  few  days  of  life,  soaking  up  all  her  firsts  while  Bella  suffered  silently  through  the  transformation.  

Of  course,  Bella  tries  to  make  up  for  the  lost  time  by  being  excessively  attentive  in  her  daughter’s  life.  She  is  frequently  seen  with  Renesmee  by  her  side,  either  holding  her  hand  or  carrying  her  in  her  arms.  In  conjunction,  she’s  also  fiercely  protective  of  Rensemee.  

This  is,  in  part,  to  do  with  the  nature  of  Renesmee  as  a  dhampir.  It  is  fairly  known  that  hybrids,  because  of  their  otherworldly  beauty  and  charm,  are  easily  endeared  to  others.  In  Breaking  Dawn,  Nahuel  was  accepted  fairly  easy  by  the  Cullens  and  other  witnesses  because  of  this,  and  Rensemee  is  no  different.  Bella  already  loved  Renesmee  with  every  fibre  of  her  being,  but  her  nature  as  a  dhampir  ramps  up  Bella’s  adoration  tenfold.  One  very  obvious  instance  of  this  is  the  extremely  visceral  reaction  she  has  to  Jacob  nicknaming  her  daughter  “Nessie”.  Bella  is  furious  at  the  implication  of  Renesmee  being  nicknamed  after  a  monster,  because  in  her  eyes—her  daughter  is  perfect,  the  exquisite  combination  of  her  features  and  Edward’s  colouring.
