They put my pale, sexually repressed boy Jean Moreau, who hadn’t seen the sun in ages, on a hot beach with half naked Californians running everywhere. Bisexual prison. Bisexual hell. Horny and sunburned

Jean-Yves Moreau's Reasons to Live
PRIDEÂ ANDÂ PREJUDICEÂ (2005) dir. Joe Wright
camille preaker they could never make me hate you
okay so I recently picked up the Mages of the Wheel series and oh my god the first three books so far have been an absolute treat. A full on snack, baby! The world building is so well thought out, the magic system is incredibly developed, the characters are dynamic with complex motivations, there’s no overused BookTok tropes, and the fantasy elements of the books aren’t sacrificed in the name of the romance. It’s not a totally flawless series, but compared to some of the more popular books I’ve read recently, these books are MILES above what I’m seeing recommended online and I think they deserve some love!
found your tumblr through you ao3 prof just wanted to say i like your writing :-D
omg that’s so sweet!! i’m barely active on anything any more but that really makes me want to get back to writing - can i ask which fics you read?

i still haven’t seen a single critique of babel’s characters (rf kuang) that isn’t from a white reviewer which is just…sus?
i agree with some general critiques of Babel such as it being very heavy handed with its messaging (tho some of you needed it to be dumbed down). but like to say the characters are underdeveloped and don’t have personalities?? to say they’re “caricatures”? just say you don’t know how to relate to people of colour and see them as fully formed human beings lol. bc we must not have read the same book. i related to robin on such a deeply personal level and come on, it was slow, it was the character growth and all of their relationships that made the first half of the book fly. robin at the start and robin at the end is not the same character at all.
i just - i’m so deeply suspicious of white reviewers who say they couldn’t connect to the characters at all. i secretly think they are just scared bc they saw themselves in letty and need to deny it all. also - books can be good without you being able to self-insert into characters (looking at you yt booktok). sometimes it’s good to explore new perspectives guys.
idk. babel had great characters. if you want to chat with me about why you disagree further, PLEASE. but if it’s bc you’re white and just think they’re underdeveloped without some hella good reasoning or you couldn’t connect to them - get out
new aftg book how are we feeling?
