English summers could often be fickle, so when the opportunity came about for Henry to do some work outside, he took it. If it had not been for the clearing of her throat then he might have continued to be absorbed in his reading — instead, he was quick to his feet and ready to offer a smile. “No matter… it would seem we have the same idea.” He mentioned, moving some of the papers beside him to the other side. “Surely there is room for us both to work?”

“And what does that have to do with me?” Edward asked, not knowing the girl was the sister of his wife.

He had not expected a noblewoman. If he had known who it was he never would have spoken so candidly. His surprise at seeing her was evident on his face as he quickly jumped to attention, eyes wide like a deer cornered. “Nothin’ My Lady.” He blushed as he stumbled over his words, attempting to gain composure again, “I mean, nothin’ worth your Lady’s notice.” He showed her the title with embarrassment. Reading was his way to try and improve himself, to be more than the farm boy he was born as. Progress, however, was slow. The collection of poems on Charles’s restoration was more propaganda than it was literature, but it served his purposes. 

Luciana was settled down with a book in her hands, her index finger sliding across the page as she read over the text. She’d been off in another world, her mind focused in on the details of the book. 

The sound of the woman’s voice brought her out of her daydream, but her eyes were still scanning over the words until she came to the end of the page. Closing the book, she looked up to the woman who had interrupted her reading. A feeling of panic rushed through her body, and she wished so terribly that she hadn’t looked up. Her sister. She would’ve been lying if she said she hadn’t been dreading this moment—the moment she would make contact with her sister after 10 years. “I was almost finished reading. Is there any chance you could, perhaps, work elsewhere? Or wait for a moment?”
