I’m old enough to remember people being uncertain about Robert Pattinson’s casting in Twilight, and now, eighteen years later, he continues to prove that he’s one of the best actors of our generation. I said it after watching Mickey 17, and I’ll say it again after The Odyssey: Pattinson is in a league of his own.

There’s something indescribable about the actor’s ability to convey every character he’s embodying with a depth that ensures he stands out. And the best part is? He hasn’t even delivered his best performance to date, and it’s not because he isn’t remarkable in every role, but because that career-defining moment is coming, and when it does, I genuinely don’t think any of us are prepared for it, even if we’ve been a fan for a while.

“You don’t choose the ship. The ship chooses you.” That’s a ridiculously fun belief I’ve always stood by when it comes to romantic pairings on TV and film because even if you know that something is doomed, it doesn’t matter if they appeal to you. That was the case in The Rings of Power when the explosive chemistry between Morfydd Clark’s Galadriel and Charlie Vickers’ Sauron gripped me (and many others) right from the start, even though we knew based on Tolkien’s expansive lore and previous stories that she was to marry Celeborn. But Celeborn wasn’t in the picture then.

The Mandalorian and Grogu wasn’t exactly a huge theatrical success for Disney and Star Wars, but still, the adorable film did well enough to garner an 87% audience score, despite its 60% rating accumulated from critics’ reviews. At the same time, while the price of the theatrical experience is wildly too high now if you don’t subscribe to perks like AMC A-List, it’s likely that some families are still waiting for its Disney+ release, knowing that even if it’s much later, it’ll certainly be available at some point.

In a time where we’re subjected to unnecessarily long hiatuses, Percy Jackson and the Olympians is doing the opposite by delivering its third season within the same year as its Season 2 finale release. Unveiling a new poster, casting confirmations, and a teaser during its SDCC 2026 panel, we’ve got a lot of goodies to unpack with Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 3. 

I’ve luckily seen a live, genuinely transportive production of Hadestown (featuring Jordan Fisher and Maia Reficco), so I knew precisely what I was in for with the live movie version, filmed at the West End, with the original cast. Jokes on me because I cried even harder and sat in the dark questioning everything. But I suppose that’s the power of Greek mythology and the story of Orpheus and Eurydice. It’ll get you every time.

In a world where toxic masculinity is unfortunately still rampant, AI is shoved in our faces, and all of the doom in the news, I needed Project Hail Mary. We need hope, as difficult and painful as it can be. A reminder that the problems we have can be solved if we actually work together in giving them the attention they deserve, and trust in science and qualified professionals. Now more than ever, we need a hero who is an academic who works on a problem until it is solved. A hero who has kindness, bravery, and curiosity. That hero is Ryland Grace.

The subtlety by which a romantic moment in a Christopher Nolan film stays with me isn’t something I’ve written about often. (There’s the ending of The Dark Knight Rises and a good portion of Memento, yes. I could even talk at length about a specific scene in Inception.) But right now, I can’t stop thinking about one line in The Odyssey as it replays in my head, over and over again in a sea of sensational dialogue that moved me to my core. (More on that later when I can actually sit with the movie and take proper notes.) Yet, what I don’t need to take notes on because it’s seared in my brain is Anne Hathaway’s delivery of “I want Odysseus.” 

It’s wild to think that we’re already at that point where a new Avengers movie is right around the corner. We’ll blink, and it’ll be December. There’s rightfully been a lot of debate surrounding the movie, from its understandable name change (formerly Kang Dynasty) to the frustration that a Romani actor should’ve been cast as Doctor Doom. In addition, there’ve been countless critiques that whatever phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe we’re in now has been weaker than what we got in the Infinity Saga. Still, die-hard fans and maybe even casual ones will likely be seated for Avengers: Doomsday.

Written and directed by Jared Isaac, An Autumn Summer is a tender and lovely exploration of adolescence and the connections we make along the way. Perfect for viewers who care about quiet stories and honest conversations, there’s a lot to appreciate here, especially where the cinematography is concerned. Plus, it reminded me a bit of Every Year After, which is a win because while we often associate the summer months with bright colors, the more muted approach feels more natural to the summers many of us used to know.

What does the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center (PTMC) look like without Dr. Samira Mohan? What does patient care look like without the physician who takes the time to notice symptoms that fall through (implicitly or otherwise) biased cracks? What do the department’s patient satisfaction scores look like without the professional who slows down to get to know the personal? All of these questions and more loom large over The Pitt‘s highly-anticipated third season for me. Months after the news dropped, I’m starting to have a bit more clarity about why I’m still thinking about Dr. Samira Mohan’s exit.

We’ve never needed gods to show us how fractured humanity is. How time and again, man has contributed to the destruction of the world, causing it to burn over and over while others rebuild and reshape. How generation after generation, the calamities of war seem to teach us very little. We’ve only needed to look another person in the eye to see all the pain that’s continued to remain lodged in the depths of their soul, driven by all the ways they’ve suffered in their own lives. How people have persisted in abusing and misunderstanding Zeus’ law or Jesus’ teaching in the name of selfish ambitions. And as much as Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey is an adaptation of a grand epic, it’s how it serves as a careful examination of the world today that makes it a career-defying achievement. 

True to its title, Heartstopper Forever delivers the kind of swoon-worthy and gorgeously wholesome conclusion that feels right for all the characters. From the very beginning, the show’s inclusivity has felt like the warmest hug on TV, and that much is still true with the movie, even when our hearts are a little fractured during its middle. Yet, the ending marks a new beginning with the kind of narrative that can always be here for people who’ll need a reminder of just how far love can take someone. 

When it comes to Prime Video adaptations, we’re all likely waiting for them with bated breath at this point. The streamer knows exactly what it’s doing, and it consistently delivers something worthwhile, like in Off Campus, Every Year After, and all others that’ve been announced. We’ve read the books, we’re obsessed with them, and we know what’s coming. But rarely does something unexpected pull me right in from the trailer when I know very little about the property, and that’s Megan Park’s Sterling Point.

Matt Reeves’ The Batman is one of the best adaptations of the DC comic we’ve had in a long time, but at this point, it’s been far too long of a wait for the sequel. With the DCEU producing films like Superman and Supergirl within a year of each other, it’s easy to wonder why The Batman 2 is taking so long and how it’ll impact the viewing experience at that point in time.

If there’s one thing I’ll always appreciate about a third-act breakup, it’s the emotionally driven reunion that follows. The grand gestures and the thoughtful decisions that make a clear point that characters know exactly who they want and why. In addition, while it’s easy to understand when long-time fans of a book are upset by changes to an adaptation, the one thing I’ll consistently defend is how Louisa Levy and the entire Off Campus team changed the trajectory of Hannah and Garrett’s relationship timeline because it makes complete sense for the characters and the decade we’re in.

This past weekend, Pretty Little Liars stars Lucy Hale and Ian Harding, among others, reunited at Comic Con Midlands, prompting fans to take to social media about how they want to see the two of them reunite in another property together. Well, you don’t have to wait too long because late last year, Deadline announced that it’s officially in the works.

It’s been a hot minute since we’ve had an adaptation of Sense and Sensibility, and Georgia Oakley’s already promises that it’s going to be a gorgeous one. With a renowned cast of actors who’ll surely do an amazing job and a vision for something different, we can get what’ll likely be an adaptation that’ll bring new fans to the world of Jane Austen.
