Look. There are positives. This film has chosen a direction and it sticks to it. It's there to be nostalgic. It's trying to play into the cartoon. It means it's ridiculous and stupid at times, but I respect that they've chosen to give fans what they want - lets face it, He-Man was never going to be Oscar bait, so the fact it hasn't tried to be deep, meaningful, or moody is genuinely a good thing. And, as someone coming to it new, I was never lost or bogged down in lore.

Added to that, the overall story arc is fine, and the acting from the main cast is good enough to not be distracting (and when it is cartoonish - well, see above), if never quite enough to pack any emotional wallop. But they're dealing with a lacklustre script. The jokes are obvious. The beats too metronomic.

Then there are genuine questions raised which aren't answered - or the answers were left on the cutting room floor. Why does his mother not accompany Adam to Earth? He's clearly still a child in need of some form of looking after, and he's meant to the be planet's last hope - so why send him off alone when you're both right there at the portal? Why does the sorceress play so little part, despite her power? Why choose a He-Man transformation that is entirely unearned - he may become magically strong through the Power of Grayskull, but how come he can suddenly fight as well? They could have had him spend the time on Earth training to fulfil his destiny, instead of badly trying to cover Nicholas Galantzine's muscles with a baggy shirt and portraying him as a gym-shy nerd when he's already Dorito-shaped.

Okay, so finally, this point is petty. But it annoyed me. It's an Amazon made film, and early on, they have a bad guy taken out by a Prime truck. "Look! We're the good guys!" Super ick.
