Can you imagine opening the new Stargate show with Sheppard looking like this and chatting with Todd who'd still look completly the same, cause wraith. Maybe teasing him about how he's gone gray. Something like...

Todd: *brushing his claw against Johns cheek* Well well. What is this?

Sheppard: You like it? (teasing back, thinking Todd was trying to piss him off)

Todd: *grinning* I love it.

okay now see i havent actually watched all of sg1, and i've only seen 48 hours, so im sure theres some canon stuff that im missing. but i do have a lot of thoughts about what triggered rodneys inital growth and the moments that lead to more growth throughout the course of sga

i think, number one, is elizabeth choosing him for the atlantis expedition. personally i like to think rodney was one of if not the first person chosen for the expedition, and i think elizabeth let him have a bit of a say in the personnel she chose. she trusted his judgement, she trusted him, and that was huge for rodney. i think its also why elizabeth is one of the only people we regularly see rodney step in front of harms way for in the show, because rodney feels he owes so much of who he is and what he has to elizabeth

i also think john choosing rodney to be on his team was a huge contributor, not just because he was being picked for something again, but because of what john represented to rodney. throughout the entire series its very clear rodney sees john as the Macho Main Character Hero Ladies Man, and for someone like that to choose rodney Means Something. i think theres also the very obvious parallels of sg1 rejecting him vs ar1 choosing and accepting him

i think theres also a few defining moments in sga that further the character growth. the moment with the energy creature in hide and seek where rodney puts the sheild on and walks into it. rodney wanting to help john but not wanting to leave brandon in the defiant one. the entirety of hot zone. and that's just season one

one of my favourite things about rodneys character growth is its not linear. he will have a moment where he Makes Progress and you can see that progress in future episodes!! but it doesnt magically undo who he is or how he processes things.
