Cheap Thrills

The priest rolled over, brushing the thoughts away as he forced himself to sit upright on the bed. His bare chest shivered against the cold, morning air. A squinted eye would inform him he’d left the bedroom window open, and that it had snowed overnight.

His long, black hair flowed as he made his way over, closing it with a thud. Before leaving the bedroom, he flicked on the heater for Inris who was not at all disturbed by the racket, or the cold for that matter.

Currently, they were in Grizzly Hills, in a large Inn that was beyond rustic in nature. It was so beautiful here, Verris wondered if he could buy the place. That is why they were here after all, to find a place to live. Well, a summer home at least. He wouldn’t be leaving the Winterdawn Manor permanently anytime soon.

As these thoughts trickled passed he had managed to dress himself in an elegant open-front robe, dark in colors to match his hair. A white shirt covered his chest and large boots covered most of his chosen pants.

“My my, dear! What an outfit! Are you planning to meet a King?” She would chuckle as Verris passed her in the hall.

“I’ll take that as a compliment, Miss.” He smiled a bowed as he walked away. Amy was her name, if memory served. She helped man this Inn and greeted them upon their arrival.

While entering the main hall lazy eyes scanned the room for Mat, but he was nowhere to be found. ‘Awesome’ he thought; exiting the building.

He tugged up his heavy hood, shielding the chilled wind and to cover his scarred skin. He wasn’t a fan of his new look, even still. But, it couldn't be helped, or changed, so ‘deal with it’ was his only option. A sign of corruption and to top it off he was a priest. A corrupted priest… wonderful. Once again he shut off his thoughts and focused on walking in the thick layers of snow.

With a puff of white breath, he sighed and leaned into a nearby door. It was heavy and creaked as it opened, followed by a bell announcing his entrance. He shook off the cold after closing the door and rubbed his hands together, looking the area over.

“Verris.”

A deep voice sounded as it entered the room. A large man, lumberjack maybe? Took up the entire entryway.

“Aye.” Verris nodded and tugged away his hood to prove his identity further.

“I assume the body is on it’s way via carriage? Thank you for the rare sample, he will be wonderful for our testing.”  His large frame lead the way down a set of stairs, the aroma of blood was almost overbearing.
