With today’s dreadful news, I realise exactly what Blackstar is. It’s the final creative testament of David Bowie - and that’s exactly what he intended it to be. And it’s beautiful - genuinely beautiful and moving. So much more moving now I understand that it’s the work of man who knew he was dying. This is the last track on David Bowie’s last album. It’s melancholy but also strangely uplifting, and I think that’s exactly what he intended. This is him saying goodbye. Bowie lived as an artist, and he died as one too. His art will always remain, and I’ll always be grateful.
