Season 2 with Alicent sneaking out of Kings Landing and Rhaenyra disguising herself as a septa was already dumb enough, along with Alicent willing to give up her sons. It throws everything out of the window and makes the usurpation feel like a waste of time.

I understand that yes sexual violence did happen to women within the medieval eras and yes I get that the greens whole purpose is that “women shouldn’t rule” but this scene of Jasper trying to rape Alicent seemed more like added shock value.

Lord Jasper is already a traitor and a bad guy on the green council who is a massive misogynist (in the books it’s said he was strict about tradition and by Mushroom’s account he had married 4 times and had over 20 children) and of course he’d be in support over sons ruling before daughters and of Aemond becoming regent when Aegon got burned.

I just don’t like the idea of the writers turning him into a degenerate at the expense of making Alicent suffer more. The scene with her being coerced by Larys into getting off to her feet was already humiliating and gross, we don’t need another scene of Alicent being violated.

Emotional incest differs entirely from the abuse of incest that relates to the grooming and sexual abuse of a relative by another relative, with a majority of victims being children.It’s a parent being too emotionally dependent on their child, oversharing and venting issues that are too complex for a child to handle and making the child responsible for their feelings. Alicent never touched Aemond sexually, but she began to vent at Aemond and make him essentially the “new second parent” when dealing with Aegon’s antics and confiding in him when she was having issues.

Alicent suffers from depression and loneliness, combined she’s also an SA survivor who dealt with predatory older men ( Viserys was way too old for her and she never loved him, she was still a child and Larys being a pervert who wanted to see her feet in exchange for information is SA and who knows how long that went on for) eventually having a secret affair with Ser Criston, she has no power even the green council only sees her as “just a woman” so she turns to the only person who will listen to her which is Aemond.

Now this is a medieval fantasy and no one knows about mental health problems and there are no hospitals to go to and doctors who can help, Alicent probably just saw Aemond as the only one she could talk to when they were both having problems, Aemond especially after having lost his eye felt more protective over him. Combine the years of incestuous marriages and now Alicent coddling and being overprotective of Aemond, it warped his mind and how he views relationships especially towards his own mother, who in turn knows deep down she’s created a monster.

I just don’t like how the writers made Rhaena be apart of Jace’s death. Jace being impulsive and wanting to prove himself is one thing, but Rhaena claiming Sheepstealer (who in the books was claimed by Nettles whose role was cut from the tv series) is ridiculous and in turn being apart of the Gullet battle being unable to control Sheepstealer is so lazy and nonsensical.

Note: I am not blaming Pheobe they did a wonderful job playing the part of Rhaena and none of the poor writing is their fault, and I don’t wish anything bad on the writers. I’m just critiquing that this incident of involving Rhaena claiming Sheepstealer in turn being apart of some freak accident in the Gullet is just dumb and doesn’t make any sense. This scene leading up to Jace’s death was disappointing to me.
