Do you have any tips on what kind of settings you should do when taking pictures on a sunny day?
oh my god such an awesome question because I absolutely hate shooting on sunny days and I still have massive problems with them. I eventually just realized that it wasn’t really my settings but more about the timing. I mainly shoot portraits and drone shots so i’ll give you my tips for both.Â
Portraits: I try my best not to shoot in broad daylight and I prefer shooting earlier in the day or as the sun is coming down. If the sun is up and really bright, I’ll schedule a studio session because the light coming through the windows is much softer and easier to work with. I really don’t ever shoot outdoors in the middle of the day and if I really have to, i try to do it in urban areas where there’s a lot of shade to work with. So overall, try shooting indoors during the brightest parts of the day, and outdoors during early morning or late afternoon.
Drones: This is much trickier because it is absolutely necessary for me to shoot ONLY in the early mornings or while the sun is coming down in the afternoon, OR if it’s a cloudy overcast day. Even with my darkest ND filter, if I shoot in the middle of the day, all my shots come out looking really nasty and harsh. The only work-around is an overcast day.
Overall, just be really picky with timing your sessions and where you shoot them. You have to be really aware of where the sun is because that’ll be your main source of light most of the time. Don’t force yourself to shoot in broad daylight, sometimes not shooting is better than getting a shitty picture. Hope this helped :)
