I wear boots...a lot. I leave em a little dirty too. Why? First, because it reminds me of my roots. I grew in rural Wyoming and on a remote island in Alaska. Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all. - Aristotle . Emotional Intelligence is the number one predictor of success. Because, emotion is what moves people forward, knowing how to use it is essential.

Emotions can either get in your way or get you on your way, you choose. Did you know that the word emotion stems from the French word for “in motion”? That’s meaningful because emotion gives you energy and gets you in motion, whether that gets in the way of your goals or pushes you to accomplish them is the distinguishing choice, we as humans get to make.

When everything about the situation is uncertain, then you must bring certainty to the situation. You do this by bring your purpose and priorities. Because, while many things may be uncertain, you can always be certain about your purpose and priorities, so bring those things to the situation. This is how you bring certainty to an uncertain situation.

Bravery comes by finding something more important than fear. How many of your decisions are driven by fear? Fear of discomfort, fear of results, fear of what others will think, fear of the unknown...fear should not dictate choice and definitely shouldn’t determine the course of your life. When you find fear in the driver’s seat, search for something more important that can overpower it.

There is no darkness so dense, so menacing, or so difficult that it cannot be overcome by light. Whether it’s darkness of the mind, darkness of the attitude, or darkness of the world, this principle remains true...it can only be overcome by light. Find ways to fill your dark moments and thoughts with light. Believe in yourself, belief in good, and be that good in the world.

Courage is of the greatest importance, because without it you cannot practice any other virtue consistently. It’s difficult to practice virtues, because no matter how well intended you are, someone won’t be happy with your actions. It takes courage to stick with the virtues and values you’ve established for yourself.

The first step to thinking strategically is to put every decision into the broader context of your life, purpose, profession, or business. When you do this, your decisions become aligned and add up to something bigger than themselves. When you don’t do this, you end up with random decisions that don’t add up to anything together.
