I know 616 Kurt isn't an innocent angel, hell even I'm a little on the fence about him, but are you sure there's nothing redeemable or likably about him?, And if it were up to you how would you re-write him?
Thank you for the ask, sincerely. I do not think Kurt ever had a good quality, the problem here is how- if we can ignore krakoa for a moment- Kurt was always a male fantasy with superficial depth. Think about
I'm sure you can come across a page of Kurt saying something akin to "don't judge a book by its cover" and sure it's lovely at first glance but when you analyse the character he hardly does walk the talk.
The women he is interested are always drop dead gorgeous women.
We hardly see him showing any real concern for mutants who can't pass as human or don't have a safety net.
"Mun, you wanted Kurt to fix everything?" No. I'm not saying that but Kurt doesn't do much aside saying one line and not bothering again. "Mun, this is the writer fault" which ...fair, to some extent, except this is a pattern for him.
He says smth "don't judge a book by its cover" and we are meant to see him as this amazing figure. He is the heart of the X-Men.
When he helps someone, it's usually an X-Men. Not a terrible thing mind you but that's it. He helps someone of his own group (note he doesn't do much for his sister/gf, his mother Margalia)
And he was fine with not interact with anyone else.
He sides with Logan ...and is it friendship or he is just hypocrite?
"Mun, he is a loyal friend" Logan did a lot of shit, I'm not saying the X-Men should turn their back on him but ....I don't think Kurt, as a good Catholic, see no issue with the stuff Logan did? Nothing?
And ofc the way he behaved in Excalibur is gross. "Mun, he has no guilt in finding Meggan hot" in a way, I get. If you are attracted to someone, this is natural. However, is how you act that is a problem. Meggan's power is a nightmare fuel for any women....you can be whatever people (mostly men) want you to be, Kurt took advantage of that.
His excuse later to come out as a good boy sounds very not sincere. "I just wanted to date a woman like men"
Kitty: you were into Meggan when she was a white woman. That is literally the only time she ever got blue. (If Kitty was a girls girl or at least was written by someone who doesn't see her as fetish)
(no Brian is not innocent. No, Brian beating up Kurt is not the answer but like....I sort get why he did it)
Now with krakoa....it is much worse.
He is a hypocrite and he first thing he does with power is to help his fetishes....he doesn't try to help anyone but himself.
The X-Men aren't heroes anymore. Thanks marvel editors.
If you want to know more of my thoughts please do ask, I do love to talk about him. Kurt, as I see him, is a character who is protected by nostalgia and "hey cool scene/cool art"
Good art can help a book but never against bad writing.
