Dwarf fortress challenge run - new frontiers
The theme
Dwarf fortress is often about getting wealth and resources and trying to win fame and aclaim before the fort collapses, but I felt like something a little different. This challenge is one of trying to hang on despite terrible odds, with failures perhaps paving the way for future⦠less terrible failures.
The scenario
Fleeing from a disaster, a small number of dwarves attempt to restart their civilisation in an unfamiliar environment and build a haven to attract and shelter the other scattered survivors.
The challenge
The world is 100 years old, with few civilisations and very few sites. Beast levels are very high while savagery is merely high, and resources are frequent.
Starting from a struggling civilisation (which there is likely to be given the world settings) and picking a settlement location as far from the threat that you are running from as possible (given other desired embark location factors), the rules are:
Start with no animals except two mules to pull the wagon and a cat or two - attempting to domesticate the local wildlife is part of the challenge
No home caravans - the fortās location is too remote and the civilisationās situation too dire for regular trade
Population cap starts at 10 and goes up by 10 each year - the fort is hard to get to and intentionally hidden so word is slow to spread, and the number of survivors is limited
The goal
I will be posting in character summaries of the events of each year, roughly illustrated with sketches, documenting the dwarves attempting to revive their civilisation where no dwarf has gone before.
Great concept, I canāt wait to read about how all the Dwarves get ripped to pieces in the first month by agitated giant cardinals
