I wish people paid more attention to this scene when they accuse Walker of taking the serum for power hungry reasons to get fame and glory when we see him once again visibly uncomfortable with the attention. He puts on a public face front when the people are wanting his autograph but as soon as they are gone, his face changes and he’s got his hand in his face in exhaustion. He’s not there for the celebrity of it all, he just wants to do the job and he wants to do it well, a sentiment echoed by his words in Episode 2 in the locker room. And he takes the serum because he thinks it’s the only he can do his job well and not let anyone down, and as Lemar reminded him, think of all the lives he could have saved if he had the serum. He was driven by a desire to do his job well, make people proud, and protect people, not because he wanted to seek power to simply be powerful and cool and famous.

i feel. like on a fundamental level. i do not understand x reader fic. i am not exactly opposed to it because let a thousand blossoms bloom etc. but like. i genuinely don’t get it. it seems like the exact opposite of how i engage with fiction. like the whole point is that i’m not in there. i don’t wanna be in there. if i’m in there it’s going to be very stressful.
same. I have no desire to be in the story. And I'm not even going to say how long I thought Y/N stood for yes/no and I was so confused.
That's said, I have made up OC that a therapist would probably say are self inserts but my OC are smart and talented so they deserve to be in the story even if it's not a story I'm writing. (thanks maladaptive daydreaming)
but like OP said, people engage in fiction different. The only one I'd have an issue with is people who think fictional characters should be held to the same moral code of real people . They are fictional and by reading we are consenting to be art of their story, even if that story involves killing or heavy smut.
