Honestly, the Vocaloid community owes Wowaka a lot, even the people who don’t necessarily listen to his music
Can you tell me the name of your favorite producer? If I name a popular Vocaloid song, can you tell me who wrote it? Yeah, you probably have Wowaka to thank for that. Back around 10 years ago or so everything was “by Vocaloid”. Alice Human Sacrifice by Vocaloid, Rolling Girl by Hatsune Miku, Prisoner by Len Kagamine… Nobody really paid attention to the names of the people who created the songs, only the voicebanks that sang them.
It wasn’t really until Wowaka quit for this very reason that this attitude started to change within the wider Vocaloid community. If it weren’t for Wowaka’s hiatus acting as a wake-up call to Vocaloid fans, chances are most producers would go fairly unappreciated, and people would continue to just consume songs like junk food without a second thought to who made them.
If you’re a Vocaloid producer and people know who you are, thank Wowaka. If you’re a Vocaloid fan and you have a favorite producer, if you’ve ever found a song you liked and easily been able to look for more by the same person, thank Wowaka.
