I'm leaving Kondou-san to you... Kondou-san.

This is HakuMyu related, but you're free to set it where you want.

Needless to say, I have a lot of thoughts about a Hijikata actor taking on the role of Kondou. It's quite poetic, and thematic, in a lot of ways that relate to the original story. When Kondou died, Hijikata became Commander-- and Kondou instructed Souma to make sure his sword reached the other man.

Souma hen was Kubota's first musical as Hijikata, and in some ways, it sort of feels like Souma has finally managed to hand Hijikata the sword that was entrusted to him.

This drawing inspired by what I've read about the L4 release party that happened last weekend. Taira (Kondou's former actor), bestowing his sword to Kubota (new Kondou actor) and saying he'd leave it all to him. Kubota then proceeded to cut down Taira, but that's the never changing HakuMyu chaos

Even though Kondou's not necessarily main cast, it's still a heavy role to carry Stop giving me all the shitty jobs, Kondou!, but I'm sure he'll do great.

Waiting for dawn

I'm a simple being. I see my favourite character in nice lighting, and I want to draw it. The temperature's gone down to tolerable again, and I used the opportunity to ease back into drawing.

Based on that one Hijikata shot from the Reimeiroku musical trailer.

I strongly deslike how they drew Hijikata for this particular merchandise series (*gestures to my main blog if you want to read the rant*), but that doesn't mean I can't have fun with it. In fact, it maks me want to draw him all the more.

⚔The flag that connects us⚔

Today is the anniversary of Hijikata's death (according to the old calendar), so I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to show my entry for the Hakuouki zine ( @ephemeralblossomszine). I knew right away that I wanted to do somthing with one of my favourites numbers in Musical Hakuouki Shinkai - Hijikata Toshizou hen. That number, The Flag that connects us, has the Shinsengumi members that passed on halfway remind those still struggling (Sano, Shin and Saitou) that their fight is far from over, and their vow to the Makoto no Hata still stands.

夢見た明日の前で倒れても Even if we fall before we reach the future we dreamed of 仲間に托して信じ抜けば if we entrust [our dream] to our friends and keep believing 辿り着けるはず 目指したあの場所へ we're sure we can reach the place we aimed for

In the end Hijikata appears saying that he got the message and that he will take care of it. They can leave it all to him (The song is set between him leaving Chizuru behind and her joining him in Ezo).

I always thought that was such a strong image and the choreo has been engraved in my mind. If not for the zine, I would have drawn someting for it anyways, but I'm glad I got the opportunity to do it this way.

Heisuke and Okita throwing petals is a small nod to the final HijiHen curtain call where they burried Kubota in petals.

If anyone's got an idea that can help my creative spark, I'm willing to listen. June is the start of the rainy season in most of Japan, it's also the end of Hijikata's route. I don't necessarily want to draw anything based on the ending (I don't think I'll be able to surpass the life-saving kiss I drew a couple of years ago any time soon (╯▽╰ ) ), but the rainy season seems like a fun start.

🌸Ephemeral Blossoms 🌸

I'm very honoured to be have been able to contribute some of my work to 🌸 Ephemeral Blossoms Hakuouki zine ( @ephemeralblossomszine ). This is my first contribution, the cover!

I received a few guidelines for what the mods had in mind, but I was otherwise free to interpret and draw as I saw fit.

Those who got the zine (thank you!) might notice that thanks to this illustration I did manage to squeeze in Kazama and Chizuru somehow. 😄The early bird sticker is a little nod to the cover.

Many thanks to the mods of @ephemeralblossomszine for letting me draw the cover. I hope you like this as much as I had fun drawing it.

22.05 - Happy HijiChi day! 🍙🍵

You know how you will often find people drawing reports after attending live events with some of their favourite or most memorable scenes? I tried to do so after watching Live 4, except it took me 4 months to draw these. Part 1 was posted last month, and here is part 2!

I forgot which show each interaction was from, but these all happened during the character introduction when Ruri ran on stage to introduce herself as Page of the Vice Minister of the Army, Hijikata Toshizo. I always looked forward to the Chizurus' first appearance on stage.
