Honestly, it's quite disturbing to watch the reaction Hobi's photo of Jimin and Jungkook has caused.
It really could have been as simple as people saying, "Aw, the maknae line love cuddling together, especially when Hobi's around." Because that's genuinely just their dynamic. The four of them have always been affectionate with each other. Every now and then, they'll drag Jin into it as well, but for the most part, it's something the maknae line and Hobi, their unofficial leader, naturally do. We've seen it over and over again throughout the years, so none of it is new.
That's why the photo itself isn't strange in the slightest. It isn't unusual, it isn't shocking, and it certainly isn't anything we've never seen before. We've seen Jungkook being affectionate with Hobi. We've seen Jimin cuddling Taehyung. We've seen all sorts of similar moments between different members. Physical affection has never exactly been rare in BTS.
What is fascinating, though, is how the fandom completely loses its mind the second the people in the photo are Jimin and Jungkook.
There's something almost comical about how defensive people become whenever those two are involved. You can practically predict the reaction before it even happens. The photo gets posted, people panic, people start overanalysing it, people rush to explain it away, and suddenly everyone is acting as though they've just witnessed something outrageous, when in reality it's just two members of BTS doing something that's perfectly normal for them.
And before anyone says, "Well, it's because their fans will claim they're dating," no. That excuse doesn't really hold up because people make those exact same jokes about every pairing in BTS. Every duo gets shipped by someone. Every duo has fans making edits or romantic jokes. That's hardly unique to Jimin and Jungkook.
The difference is that the reaction to Jimin and Jungkook is so much stronger. It's so much more emotional. It's almost visceral. People don't simply disagree with interpretations. They feel this overwhelming need to reject absolutely everything involving those two before they've even had time to think about it.
That, to me, is the interesting part.
It's one of the reasons why we Jikookers can't believe everyone isn't seeing exactly the same thing we are. Because if you genuinely thought there was absolutely nothing noteworthy about them, you wouldn't react this intensely every single time they interact.
Instead, people immediately go into defence mode. They rush to minimise it, explain it away, laugh at it, mock anyone who notices it, or insist there's nothing to see. And honestly, that's what makes it so obvious.
Sometimes it genuinely feels as though people are threatened by the fact that Jimin and Jungkook together simply have a different presence. Whether that's because of their chemistry, the way they naturally interact, or the way they look together, I don't know. But even people who insist there's "nothing there" end up reacting in ways that suggest otherwise.
That's what makes the whole thing so funny to me. Without meaning to, they constantly end up proving exactly what they insist isn't true. They prove, first of all, that they're complete idiots.
Secondly, they prove that common sense has been trying to catch up with them ever since they entered the fandom, and somehow they still keep running away from it.
And finally, they prove the one thing they never seem to realise.
They see exactly what we see.
The difference isn't that we're looking at different photos or different interactions. The difference is that we enjoy what we see, while they spend an incredible amount of time trying to convince themselves, and everyone else, that they don't.
