Dear Tumblr team, I heard about the changes in your content guidelines which involve banning nudity and adult content. I strongly oppose this view. I see it as another step in a long process of an illiberal backlash, a slow but steady movement in which our societies limit ways of speaking, communicating, exchanging ideas and views. This will make Tumblr a part of a conservative, Trumpesk process which ultimately strives to suppress diversity. Adult content on Tumblr has never been exclusively about pornography. It has always greatly contributed to showing the bandwidth of alternative lifestyles, identies and personalities. It created a space in which people with niche interests could find a place of recognition, acceptance and respect. All of this will be gone with the new guidelines. Your decision contributes to a scheme which is supposed to make parts of our societies invisible, to take away their presence in the open and their potential to communicate and speak out. This will make a huge part of Tumblr irrelevant. I am one of many who probably will not be using Tumblr any more after this change of guidelines because it simply won't be hosting any content that is of interest or relevance to me.
