Hi anon. So I just came across your blog. My question is.. What do you think about demons? Do you see them as evil, neutral, good? Do you see them as mere tools or entities with free will and sentience? What do you think of their followers? Satanists/demolators, what about Christians??
Demons, the lower infernal spirits are feral, wily and deceptive. They can’t be placed on a morality spectrum of “good” and “bad” because they have no concept or understanding of what human morality and the law of the land is. Some demons are more somewhat subdued, in the regard that they are easier to work with. Not that one should ever let their guard down with what has been labelled as “beginner” demons or “starter” demons as it’s just a really stupid notion to think that there are demons which are weaker or inferior or more friendlier and less forgiving.
Demons cannot be friendly or forgiving because they have no great interest in you or your feelings. Again there are demons which are more “relaxed” and not so difficult to bargain with, but one must always treat any conversation or dealing with an infernal spirit in the same decorum and manner as one would to a great king. So don’t be roped into the whole “oh Stolas is super cute and loads of people think he’s easy to summon!” Sorry Stolas lovers but there are more demons in this world than just your long legged owl boy.
And equally on the reverse, yes there are demons which behave as one would expect from a demon, which is to instill dread and fear, manifest themselves as the traditional depictions and to be all around very difficult to work with. However. It is our responsibility as the exorcist and Magus to force the demon to our bidding, you must fight fire with fire. Perform the spirit chain, unsheathe your black handled dagger, threaten that deceptive and brutal spirit into submission to your will as the Magus and master of the ceremony.
Demons on the whole are repugnant spirits who will cheat and lie and attempt to screw you over in anyway possible, even your adorable little Stolas. It is your job to ensure that the spirit is constrained and willing to serve you, otherwise you simply must enforce your will over it. To not do so risks the integrity of the ceremony, your safety and the safety of those in the ritual vicinity. If the demon realises that your weak and don’t have the stones to constrain it, it will gladly abuse this lack of power and will decide to cast away whatever wards you have in place and come for you. They are intangible spirits who lack any sense of empathy, in my personal experience demons respond well to proper ritual etiquette and obviously the presentation of offerings.
I personally would not label demons as “tools” they are a means to an end yes, albeit there are far more safer and easier approaches to take magically than to employ a demon spirit to do so. Of course they have free will and sentience, but in a ritual setting you must strip them away of this in order to instill your will onto them. The employment of a demon spirit is exactly that, employment, a bargain, a contract so less of a tool per se more of a temporary assistant, albeit one which may decide to incinerate you if your sloppy.
I know this why ceremonial magicians and goetes get a bad rep “boo your hurting demons!” “Boo your enslaving them!” First of all, they are spirits of a nature of which we cannot fully understand or comprehend in the mundane sense of the world, they certainly cannot be “harmed” but they do respond to the threat of it and cower before the holy names. And no it’s not enslavement it’s a power move, it’s instilling your dominance over a being which can turn your heart into ashes. There is a very good reason why the classical grimoires stipulate such rigorous control and safety measures, because you can and will get fucked up if your sloppy. This doesn’t necessarily apply to demons! Angels, the great celestial beings are as equally difficult and angry and a pain to work with. Demons are like angry little puppies, full of wild energy that may snap and bark at you at any moment, angels are like house cats, aloof, proud, will give you some comfort but will equally scratch your eyes out just for the hell of it.
Control what you conjure or pay the price for your laziness and foolishness.
Demon followers? Satanists? Well if we’re going by traditional LaVeyan Satanism then one should know that demon worship isn’t what they do. Satan is representative of the self, love yourself, live your life according to your own rules, take no shit, disrupt the status quo, do no harm but strike down those who harm you without mercy, bow to no king or god, just understand that Satan is a presentation of your inner feral base desires, sin incarnate in all its glorious forms. It is self liberation and certainly not demon worship.
Demon worship through demonolatry I see as quite problematic. I’m no expert on demonolatry at all, in fact it’s a relatively new term I’ve encountered (one must understand that I’ve been hermetic in the past decade) so I can’t really express too much of my opinions. However I have been contacted by former worshippers who are suffering severe consequences of their worship. I’m not going into details for the sake of discretion, but I shall just say physical attacks. In my mind demons are nor worthy to be worshipped, they are incredibly helpful spiritual aids and I’m happy to have a committed roster of demon spirits which I’ve developed a healthy working relationship with as part of my court. But to instill a shrine and worship them? No no. Why would I worship something that can be bargained with for its servitude. These are my personal opinions and I’m not pissing on the demonolatry bonfire, I’m just saying that to me, it’s something I shall never consider or do because of the hazards involved.
I’m not expanding too much of the Christian view either, because my own faith remains personal and secretive to me alone and I’m certainly not going to speak for all Christians or Abramic followers. But i think it’s fair to say that demons are extremely negative forces and are the enemy who will lead one astray from the path of piety.
