Yes, I know The Great Ace Attorney is real. Yes Iām going to stream and LP it.Ā
So ngl, Iām kind of tired seeing constant hate on Barok van Zieks because he was racist toward Ryuunosuke and Susato. Hereās the thing though.... contextually, this is very-very late 19th century to early-early 20th century, so itās not only him having this acceptable norm to be racist! Literally, throughout the game, a lot of witnesses and people were also racist towards the two as well. And I donāt see any hate against them :)
Plus, at the end of dgs2, Barok even admits that his comments were wrong! He learns and grows as a character too. So I donāt see the point of this venomous hatred toward Barok when others are in the wrong and never apologized to them.
If you disagree, either talk to me or unfollow because Iām kind of done at this point.
Iām inclined to agree with you, actually.
While what he says and does is, indeed, wrong, we do need to take historical context into account and look at it maturely, and not just aĀ āHe said a bad thing, anybody who likes anything about him is cancelled! UWUā point of view.
Unfortunately, these sentiments were common of the society at the time. But! What he and others said and did against Naruhodou and Susato and other Japanese people (like what a certain culprit/victim said of a certain reporter) and other non-white ethnic groups were as wrong then as they are wrong today in the 21st century.
And Iām actually glad DGS is portraying this sort of stuff because a whole lot of mainstream media gives it the absolute bare minimum of screen time or fails to portray it at all like when people think of these historical eras and period dramas and spend the time mostly swooning about the place over the lovey-dovey dancing or the fancy dresses, outfits and hairstyles.
And I think through failing to portray it, itās basically the same as turning around and sayingĀ āIt didnāt happen then and doesnāt happen nowāāa statement that couldnāt be any more false.
So in a way, Iām glad theyāre showing it and showing that; yes, itās wrong, it shouldnāt have happened, and shouldnāt ever happen again.
I think George Santayana puts it best:
āThose who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.ā

I have been on this project, on and off for four years, and Iām so happy I managed to finish both projects, because there was always that chance it could never reach completion. This was all entirely voluntary work. If people on the team could not continue, they were not obligated to stick around. So I appreciate everyone on the team, be it still on or have moved on, the fact that we got two games that mean a lot to me, all the way to completion.Ā
That being said, I am going to be taking a break from big projects like this. Even before DGS, I was doing big projects like ProjectxZone2, AAI2, and SoJ. And Iām just a one woman army, doing the video/script editing, recording, casting and so forth.Ā
I would like to tackle the other AA games in the future though, but I will likely the format a little and have a smaller production for them for my sanity sake ahah.
