i see you as your see yourself through all the books you read
hanging out with Ethan Wate. Soft kisses, and the smell of old books
“Listen, this,” Ethan came over to sit with you. You both were sitting in his room against his bed. In his hand was a small book. Though, it looked pretty thick.
“this, is a masterpiece. You thought that- that author of yours was good? Read this. I’ve read this book as many times as I’ve been accused of tryin’ to take Link away from the church.”
You took the book in your hands. The edges of the pages were worn, and had folds in them. The spine was cracked, and the picture on the front was just barely visible. Of course, he did love his books.
“A masterpiece?,” You echoed.
“Please, Ethan- You’ve call every book you’ve read a masterpiece.” You laughed and placed the book down on a small stack. It was a small pile of all the books Ethan recommended you in the small time you’ve been over at his house.
You shifted, and stretched your feet out in front of you. The door, in which you sat in front was wide open. Curtesy of Amma. She runs the Wate home like the navy, and enforces you two to keep the door open. No funny business.
Ethan cleared his throat, noticing the way you glanced up at the door.
“I- I don’t know why she insist on having the door open.” He murmurs rather quietly. He sounds a bit embarrassed..
“I mean— We’re old enough to know! No funny business! I don’t get why Amma babies me still. It’s- it’s embarassin’.”
He moves a little over you, and nudges the door just slightly shut with his hand.
“No,” You laughed again, and moved his hand away. Which he gladly ended up taking into his own.
“Hey, leave it open. I don’t want to make Amma mad. Plus, it’s just that she cares. She loves you, Ethan. She only wants you to be safe.”
Both of you turned a little, and seemed to face each other now. You smiled, and he did in return. The sunlight that seeped in through his window shone on his glasses. There was a small little crack in them, and they looked rather dirty. Oh, boy, you’ll just wipe them clean for him later. He won’t remember even if it killed him.
Ethan’s face began to soften, as he stared back at you. The way your face lit up with the sunlight behind you. The way your hair seemed to stay perfect, even in the hot, sticky weather of Gatlin. You are his everything, and make this hell hole of Gatlin just a little bit bearable.
Slowly, Ethan leaned forward. His lips met the very tip of you nose.
“You’re jus’ adorable. Y’know that, y/n? Like a little kitten- jus’ adorable,” he muttered against your skin.
You giggled, and leaned in. You placed your own kiss on his cheek. You could feel the slightest of stubble beginning to form.
“You’re the biggest dork I know. Yknow that, Ethan Wate? The most loveable dork I know.”
You both just giggled at eachother, and pressed kisses onto one another’s faces. The softest, and gentlest of kisses.. They were hardly kisses! Just soft, and gentle grazes of eachothers lips.
At one point, Ethan arms slowly pulled you closer. Your shoulder was pressed against his, and your faces were just inches apart.
You two just looked at each other. Whilst staring at you, Ethan’s eyes flickered downwards and glanced at your lips. To you, that didn’t go unnoticed..
When his eyes began to move upwards again, you leaned forward and pressed your lips against his own. Your eyes fluttered shut, and you can feel Ethan slowly relaxing, melting into the kiss. His hands slid to your waist, and you can feel him smile against your lips.
You two only pulled away for a second before pressing your lips against each other again! When you two did pull away, your head moved to rest on his shoulder. Your face was close to his neck, and he could feel his face flush with a little bit of warmth. You’re his girlfriend, but he never got used to you being so close.
You closed your eyes, and just laid there. Softly, Ethan murmured, “I love you.”
The southern drawl in his voice was so clear when he was whispering. It was one of your favorite things about him..
“Love you too, Ethan.” You muttered back in response.
