she smiled as she listened to the hairstylist’s words.  ❝  i bet it was hard coming here ?  ❞  she carefully assumed with how young she looked.  knowing that she had been here for a couple of years, her aim was to make her feel comfortable.  ❝  i know its been seven years, but how are you liking it here ?  i know it’s not home  —  as long as you know the basics then you’re good, and in all honesty, english is a difficult language to learn.  ❞  from time to time and no matter how long marina’s parents had been in the states, they had a difficulty with pronunciations .. she didn’t and could not blame her.  ❝  well, your hair looks great no matter the color, and i think it’s because of your skin tone.  of course, that’s what matters !  as long as you like it then yes.  just a trim today, love, thanks.  ❞

“Well, I went to New York very first thing,” she said, the woman’s smile making her stumble a bit over English grammar. “It was too much though. Iceland has maybe 200,000 people in the whole country, so millions of people on a small island was...” she trailed off and shuddered. “Also, people were not so nice. Some were, but I missed living in a smaller town. So I found this one. I heard stories of interesting things and knew I had to come here.” Marina complimented her hair and Katya blushed as she began the trim. “I have been in Coldbrook four years. It is just as magic as I thought. Even if things are maybe scary sometimes. How long have you been here?”

I don’t know. Not at this point, although I love my little friend Ava.

I can barely take care of myself right now.

cassie just focused on the mirror while katya was speaking. she hadn’t had a haircut in a while, so this was a rare experience for her. when katya finally hung up the phone, cassie just shrugged. “ that’s alright. my extended family normally speaks to one another in gaelic. as long as you’re not turning me into a bald woman while you’re talking, i’m fine with anything. “ she stated. however, after the statement she gave, she began to reconsider. maybe a bald head would look good on her. maybe she could rock the look. she’d never know, but she was fine with that.

“Gaelic. I have a friend with a Gaelic name, and I will never be able to spell it. It’s like Neev, but there is an M in it. Confusing,” she smirked, shaking her head and continuing her trim of Cassie’s hair. “You could pull it off. You have a good face,” she smiled. “Is that a weird thing to say? Sometimes I say weird things.”

❝  oh, i don’t care about looks, honey.  i take it that you grew up in iceland since you speak the language so well, and fluently ?  if so, then that is truly impressive.  ❞  she could not blame the younger figure to have given her an explanation, because she definitely wouldn’t have thought so.  marina also hoped she gave a sincere compliment to the young lady, not wanting her to hold back.  ❝  thank you.  no damage at all ?  nope, and in all honesty, i’ve never bothered dyeing it.  ❞

Honey. Katya had always liked that word. “I did, yes. I moved to America about seven years ago now. My English isn’t perfect still, but much better than it was,” she smiled. “No, almost none. As you can see, my hair is a mess, because I’m always dyeing it colours. My father does not like it, but I do, and that’s what matters, yes?” she laughed, getting her scissors. “Just a trim today, love?”

marina figured that it was time to get a decent haircut.  not exactly a new look per se, but she definitely needed it because her split ends were getting out of hand and quite itchy if she was being honest.  nonetheless, she’d never admit that she wants to look pretty decent.  ❝  oh, please, you don’t have to apologize for that.  don’t worry about it either.  klingon maybe, but no, not really.  ❞  she responded nicely to the hairstylist, chuckling softly.

Katya blushed and put her phone back in the pocket of her apron. “Well... it’s Icelandic if you wondered. And before you say I don’t look Icelandic, I know,” she smirked. She didn’t think Marina was the type to say that, but it was almost always the comment right after she told people where she was from. She went back to gently combing through Marina’s washed hair. “You have beautiful hair, you know. Almost no damage at all. Have you ever dyed it?”

“Hvernig fékkstu símanúmerið mitt? Ég bý ekki einu sinni á Íslandi lengur,” she said, before hanging up.

“Sorry,” she said then, in English, to the person whose hair she was styling. “That probably sounded like Klingon to you.”

        “SO I FINALLY HUNG THE CHRISTMAS LIGHTS up yesterday and ava is thoroughly convinced that they are stars that have somehow fallen from the sky and landed inside our living room.”

Cordelia couldn’t help but let out a small chuckle when she heard the teenager boy trying to act all smooth and failing —- and he even sounded a little bit sexist, so that was the cherry on top. “Look, tween,” the brunette began; she really had no qualms with being a bit of a bitch to a pre-pubescent meninist in the making, “why don’t you go back to your bros and tell them how I turned you down good? I’m not in the mood.” Coco ended her reply with a sharpness in her tongue that could cut diamonds. As the boy left, a scoff escaped her, talking to and looking at whoever was near enough to hear her. “Do I have ‘please bother me’ written across my forehead in bold letters, is that it?” The college student spoke, shaking her head as she leaned back on her seat.

Katya tilted her head, looking at the girl’s forehead. There was nothing written there that she could see, but... “Oh, was that a joke?” she asked, far too late. “Am I bothering you now? I promise not to hit on you, I swear. You do look great today, but I will not tell you so,” she said, miming zipping her lips shut and throwing away the invisible key. 

Moments later though, said lips were back open, as she mused, “You know... why is it that teenage boys believe the whole world exists for them, when teenage girls are told to take up as little space as possible?”

“so the mayor is really going ahead with this.” clearly, she was not impressed with the mayor’s poor attempt to get back into the citizens good graces. of course, her pessimism didn’t help. “doesn’t he think he should be addressing that there are girls missing instead of holding dinners for the press?”
