She has about as many haters as she has fans.

However, one can only have haters if you’re good at something and I think as football fans, we can agree that she has been bloody brilliant. Her prime was truly exceptional.

As someone who lives in a country where the female athletes aren’t as glorified as their male counterparts, I didn’t have a damn idea that women could play football. So imagine my surprise walking past a video game store and seeing a woman on the cover of EA 16? I deadass did a double take.

She is the reason that I found myself in this beautiful sport today and call myself a fan.

Without a doubt, she has made the generations that came before her proud and took women’s football to a greater level (not by herself of course) and leave the current generation of players with a vast degree of opportunities that she and her teammates did not have.

From being one of the worst women to grace the covers of EA sports and one Nikes first female football ambassadors and had a joint collection with Neymar (the hyper venom) to being an advocate for moms who are athletes, she has definitely created a one a kind type of legacy.

Her retirement was inevitable but it still really makes me sad but excited to see what she has in store for us.
