ok this is probably such a nothingburger observation, but i find it to be a really charming character detail about Lu Guang, so i wanted to share it.
so I've been rewatching the first few seasons to get hype for s3 (in less than a week AAA) and i've noticed that we don't usually see Lu Guang eating in front of other people very much. he seems to be really shy about it?
Like this scene where Qiao Ling hands him some fried chicken. He looks really embarrassed, and then just kind of stares at it for a bit.
or how after coming home from the hospital, he doesn't really eat right away. he's clearly lost in thought there, but still.
Anyway, what I find interesting about that is that Lu Guang seems way more open to eating when other people aren't there to look at him. The dive in the special episode about Liu Siwen makes for the best example, and I found this on a rewatch:
First, the popsicle scene. Idk why he eats it sideways like this but more power to him I guess. Enjoy the funny still I landed on.
Then some time passes, and we get this shot:
-when Cheng Xiaoshi is going up the stairs as Liu Siwen, which Lu Guang states needs to happen within two hours. Which means Lu Guang ate all this in less than two hours and then took a nap.
And there's just something so interesting to me about this seeming habit of his. I suppose you could assume he's eating out of boredom here, but with everything else, it just seems a little deeper than that.
We know from interviews with Director Li Haolin that Lu Guang is the type of person who, "Says he doesn't like sweets, but sneaks a bite anyways" (paraphrased). The idea that he seemingly doesn't like to eat around other people, and feels more OK eating alone, perhaps especially when it comes to sweets...I don't know that it speaks to much except his reserved nature, but I find it kind of charming, I guess. Especially considering the other things he seems more OK doing alone than when anyone is around (for example, he covers his mouth when yawning when around people, but when he's alone in this episode, he yawns openly without bothering to do that.)
Anyways uh that's it that's the post. Lu Guang is silly.
