and like. yeah. maybe it would be less scary if it looked like some other dickhead. less personal certainly, maybe less confronting for it to be the boy from this town who saw these things happen to ryan in this part of ryan's life. but. but he doesn't care. he still wants it to look like naim because even if it's confronting or scary or, you know, fatal, at least it will be FAMILIAR

ryan’s first encounter with the entity that we see being him taking it on a date because he truly believes it’s naim :((

although i do wish naim and ryan’s relationship was more fleshed out, i also kind of like how we don’t know much of either’s backstory, how long naim has been the “new kid” or how long he’s known the people in the town, because it seems like naim is uncertain of ryan and their subsequent relationship from the beginning. he questions why ryan is acting different from the persona he puts on at school and is shocked when he sees ryan and hunter together. he seems to have very little information on the town. the lack of establishing that information puts us in the same boat as naim. i think the audience being unsure of what exactly is going on between naim and ryan really sets us into naim’s perspective even more. we are just as unsure and unknowledgeable about ryan as naim is.

as silly goofy fun as it is to joke about naim "getting rid of hunter" i'm going to be a party pooper and say i think naim carries the guilt for hunter's death till the day he dies. he was distraught talking to the counselor at the police station, begging them to do something bc he was the only witness to the horrific thing that happened to hunter and knew it was coming for ryan next. and whether or not it was his fault, naim knows it was his jealousy and selfish decision to out them that set the events in motion that ultimately cost hunter his life. naim leaves the town behind and moves on, but i don't think he ever fully forgives himself.

obsessed with how naim is so terrified in this scene he can't even speak. his slow tapping on the door gradually building until he's frantically bashing on the glass. then the door opens and he stumbles into ryan's arms shaking and unable to calm down. ryan's "hey, hey. look at me, you're okay. look at me." as naim struggles to get his breathing under control. god these two are going to be the death of me
