There is a unique threat in the mimic. If it hears you, knows of you, it will imitate and trick you. It doesn’t need a lot of data. It just needs one snippet of your voice, and it can copy you.

As far as Gregory is concerned, the second Cassie freed the mimic, she was dead. She could not be trusted. Gregory would have no way of knowing if her voice is hers, if the being he led into that elevator was her.

If Cassie hot out alive, she’d look for him. He knows her, they were friends. She went through the Pizzaplex for him. Gregory knows that… he could never tell her where he is. Because he can’t go meet her.

The mimic was FREE. He doesn’t know if what he sees is real, unless it was in his face. And he can’t risk himself or Freddy (or Vanessa, if she’s there).

He doesn’t want to kill Cassie. He wouldn’t apologize if he took any pleasure in it. He doesn’t want to kill her like he had to get the animatronics.

But - as far as Gregory is concerned - he was too late to save her.

We, the player, know Cassie is safe. She got in alone. The mimic is downstairs. She’s okay, Gregory would have been okay.

But Gregory is confused, and scared, and has shown he does not take risks. Call it cruel, but it’s survival.

He has two options: let the elevator come up, and hope for the best, or let it go, and know for certain that whatever is down there does not get out.

The mimic targeted Cassie using Gregory. It used him, went for someone he cared for. Who’s to say it wouldn’t go for Freddy next, or anyone else, if Gregory has more friends? If nothing else, it’ll certainly come for him, if it gets the chance.

Cassie’s death, if she is dead, is horrible. It’s tragic. She was used and suffered for it.

But Gregory is not evil for doing it. (And remember, they’re the same age - he doesn’t have and particular thoughts on Cassie being a child that would change his mind. He is a child. They’re friends. That’s all he factors in)

He made a cruel choice. But one he saw was necessary. And painfully human.

He chose not to take a risk. He never asked Cassie to go to that Pizzaplex. He never wanted her there because he NEVER WANTED to have to do this. He doesn’t owe her anything because she ran there for him (even though I’m certain he feels worse because of it. He just can’t afford to lose everything for her).

A character who makes sacrifices is not evil. A character who makes a decision at the expense of another is not evil.

They’re human. Humans can be cruel. Humans panic and make harsh choices when they’re afraid of being hurt.

Cassie should not have died. She was scared, terrified, and just a kid who wanted to save her friend.

But sometimes a horrible, awful, painful outcome is not the fault of evil.

Just a terrible, painful choice that not everyone can or wants to make.

Maybe you would’ve taken the risk. That doesn’t mean you’re good. Not taking it doesn’t make you evil.

Gregory isn’t evil. He was presented with a terrible choice, and, we know he made the wrong choice.
