The wedding is over, at least. The people have dispersed, they've been left alone, and Elisabeth is no longer a complete embarrassment like she was the whole reception. Now, she's just... weirdly quiet. Staring into space. Unmoving. No signs of life.
@ask-elizabeth-cortland
He walks over to her, holding a chalice of wine.
"You haven't spoken since the reception."
he sips his wine
She doesn't move. Is she mad at him? Is something wrong?
"you are upset."
he doesn't say it in a comforting way
Her eyes turn glassy but she blinks as if trying to hide it.
“Why are you upset? Tonight has been perfect has it not?”
She takes a shaky breath. "I'm not good at being in loud places."
"They... hurt. I don't think it's normal. Or maybe I'm just worse at hiding it."
“What do you mean hurt?”
He takes another sip of his wine
"...I can feel sounds. And I kind of feel like I'm gonna throw up or rip my skin off."
“That is definitely not normal. Perhaps we should take you to a doctor.”
"It's been happening my whole life. I've seen doctors about it. They don't know what the problem is."
“Odd. Perhaps William will be of use.”
"Who?"
“William? Our servant?”
..
“Oh I suppose I haven’t introduced you two yet have I?”
"This is the first opportunity I've really gotten to speak with you."
“Apologies I was speaking with the guests. But please follow me.”
He offers her a gloved hand to take
She stares at it, debates silently... then stands up on her own.
He puts his hands down and nods
“Very well. Follow me.”
He begins to walk, not bothering to look if she’s following.
She follows him, glad he can't see all her nervous fidgeting.
He eventually stops at a large door
“This is my study.”
He shuts the door behind them, its pitch black
He claps and blue candles ignite
“William. I know you’re in here..come out.”
"...Highly unusual behavior."
He’s getting irritated.
“WILLIAM CIPHER COME HERE THIS INSTANCE”
Suddenly a cloud of fog appears, in it stands a man, who looks fragile.
“A..apologies your majesty..i didn’t hear you..”
"Oh! Alright, uh... this is... not something I knew could happen."
“O..oh! Uhm- you must be Elisabeth.. His majesty has told me about you..”
Stanford clasps his hands behind his back
“Elisabeth, this is William. My most loyal servant. If you need anything he will make sure it is done. Isn’t that right William?”
It’s a normal question but for some reason it sounds almost sinister.
"...I will keep that in mind."
William bows
“I am at your service..”
“Good. Now Elisabeth I wanted to give you a present.”
"Oh!" She sounds more anxious than excited.
He pulls out a small black box and opens it
Inside is a beautiful necklace, it has a silver chain and in the middle is a blue pendant.
“This will give you access to William at all times. it will make it much easier to contact him.”
"...How?"
He assumes she doesn’t want a full on explanation so he just says
“Magic.”
