listen. if your mutual suddenly starts referring to The Character with different pronouns, you must go along with it. that character is trans now. theyāre right.
Meet the water anole, a small lizard native to the tropics of Central America. While studying these anoles, researchers discovered that they could flee underwater and remain submerged for 16 minutes or more at a time. Curious to see how the lizard manages this feat, they filmed them underwater, discovering that the anole seems to exhale a small bubble that sticks on its face and then re-inhale it.Ā
How exactly this built-in āscuba gearā works is still under investigation, but hereās my guess. Fresh oxygen can diffuse from water into a bubble; some insects use this to breathe underwater. The natural, random motion of molecules tends to cause chemicals to move from areas of high concentration to those of low concentration. But this molecular diffusion is extremely slow. That tiny bubble you see isnāt around long enough for any significant molecular diffusion of fresh oxygen. But what if the surface of the bubble is actually much larger?
Notice the silvery shininess we see on the anole. Thatās because most of the lizard isnāt actually wet. The anole is superhydrophobic, so its skin has trapped a thin layer of air that appears to extend over a large part of its body. I think perhaps the anole has fresh oxygen diffusing into the air layer across most of its skin, and the large bubble it inhales and exhales serves as a sort of pump to help draw that fresh oxygen through the air layer and into its body. That could help explain how the anole can stay submerged for so long.
As researchers continue to investigate this little aquanaut, it will be interesting to discover just what its secrets are! (Image and video credit: L. Swierk; via Gizmodo)

I am genuinely so fucking stupid. I was reading this book where a bunch of people have to pass a logic puzzle in order to survive, and I was like "why are they all dying?? the answer is obviously the third goblet from the left!" yeah.....that was not the answer. I would've died in this book, and I would've been SO publicly smug before I did. like giving people the finger, smirking, etc. this sucks.
Wait, thereās physical copies of Fallout Equestria? Thatād have to be massive.
The first run was five hardbacks of progressively increasing girth. The stack is hefty, but the books are comfortable. Each chapter has chapter art too, which I consider a plus in all fantasy books.
Later runs were single-book softcover monstrosities. I think I saw another five-volume hardback run recently, but Iām not deeply involved in the fandom anymore.
The second print run was two volumes, hardback, with jackets.Ā Dunno about any subsequent runs.
I still think the 5-volume split was the best option.Ā Itās a big damn story.
(For anyone who hasnāt read it: yes, thatās a functional replica of the main characterās go-to weapon.Ā No, I didnāt customize it like that; I bought it from the person who did.)
anon PLEASE tell me your teacher is the author of this
Ok, I Kind of hate that I know this, but Iām pretty sure that anonās teacher did NOT write the books the others are showing off. He wrote the darker, edgier and somehow even longer fanfic OF that fanfic called Project Horizons.
Original Fallout Equestria was written by someone known as Kkat who Iām 90% sure is a woman and the story only has some PG-13ish scenes at worst (you know, aside from the violence and gore that comes with a Fallout setting.) Project Horizons was written by a guy known as Somber, who I remember him mentioning in the post-chapter notes that he got fired for failing the wrong student once and the fic itself includes multiple explicit sex scenes.
itās important to me u know what the 3rd printing looks like.Ā please note the gilded pages
one of tumblrās secret trump cards is its ability to deliver absolutely OBLITERATING gut punches like this post without any context or warning whatsoever
You also purchase CDs once and as long as nothing happens to them you get to keep them forever.
and if you have a computer with a disc drive, you can move the content of those CDs onto it and then burn it onto future CDs. it doesn't even have to be the same album. you can make a playlist with physical media. you just have access to all of it, at your whim, with no unskippable ads being shoved in your ears. it's really nice!

love it when fma just says the quiet part out loud
[insert āi know writers who use subtext and theyāre all cowardsā here]
One of my favourite bits in fma is how during the final arc they bring up why attempting human stransmutation is forbidden, as the readers we've seen what happens when an attempt fails with Ed and Al, so of course the logical explanation is that "it's too dangerous to attempt", or even "it goes against the natural way the world works, it's monstruous in nature and impossible".
But then Arakawa in her infinite wisdom as a writer goes, lol no, the goverment has been making flesh monsters with human transmutations in secret for years, they forbid it so that nobody can't even come close to attempting to create a personal army that cannot feel pain
Often disabled people wildly overestimate their ability purely via ableist conditioning where they feel pressured to, or mistakenly think they Should be able to do all the same things as their ablebodied peers.
In this case, accurately assessing their comfort levels might feel like underestimating themselves. But it's necessary to not overexert and avoid further burnout.
So remember if you're disabled, underestimate your abilities more often. Either you were mistaken and end up feeling good afterwards despite the activity, or you were correct and spared yourself extra grief by stopping just when you needed to
