I don’t have the patience to wait as they learn what makes me laugh, what makes me cry. I want to skip right to the middle, where we are comfortable and familiar with each other’s quirks. I want to sit down and know what we’re watching on tv. I want to know which types of music we agree on and what sort of people we can’t stand. I want to know where they like to be kissed. And how. And when. So, I forgive myself for holding onto you even when I’m aware we no longer fit. Because adjusting is a whole lot easier than beginning, and my endurance just isn’t what it used to be.”
