The biggest “your experiences are not universal” thing I feel is whenever anyone talks about the universality of girls planning their weddings since childhood because. Well. Not me. God bless

there’s a cultural obsession with labelling all female authors as unintelligent or otherwise only capable of accidentally stumbling into brief moments of genius in their works that we need to start pushing back against
“I was always bothered when people say, ‘I cry to your music, it sounds like a diary, it sounds so personal,’” Mitski says. “Yes, it is personal. But that’s so gendered. There’s no feeling of, ‘Oh, maybe she’s a songwriter and she wrote this as a piece of art.’”
(source)
feel like it's related to the phenomenon mitski's discussing here - if women's art is only seen as unfiltered diaristic emotion then of course it can only ever be accidental genius, never created with intention and thought
I am constantly seeing people trying to puzzle out what's "ruining books" and it makes me more and more tired. Read a different book. You have more choice in reading material than at any other point in all of history. No one thing can be ruining ALL of them.
YOU🫵'RE 🫵 NE->XT.!! moTHERFUCKER!!!!
GET LOVED!!!!!!!!!!
not a good person but not a bad person either. I can be a bitch but I’m very kind too. I’ll just never be as kind as I wish I was, but also not as bad as I fear I am

(The Drama spoilers)
So, I saw the movie with a relative of mine, and we were in the car afterwards talking about the juxtaposition of Emma's thoughtcrime-level transgression (I know, asterisk; it's not what the post is about) with the very real and actively harmful transgressions of the others, and then my relative said that she didn't like the end of the movie because she didn't want Emma to forgive Charlie.
And it was one of those situations where you can kind of feel it might not be entirely About the movie, like maybe the person has been cheated on irl or been publicly embarrassed by a partner, so I didn't put forth much argument out loud except to say that I liked the ending, but just for you guys, while I'm here:
Grace is the point. Saying "Yes, you can start over. Yes, even now," was the point.
It might be unfair, in the human sense, that Emma is extending Charlie the grace he failed to extend to her, but in the story sense it is structurally essential.

in 2026 DO NOT ask yourself whether your art is GOOD
instead ask:
is it SINCERE
was it CATHARTIC
was it FUN TO MAKE
is it MADE BY ME
and don't forget to stay silly

ok so its a pretty good story but you know what would make it better? a liar. a character who lies. maybe two.
