"Other people aren’t the only family I have left, Kier. Forgive me for wanting to keep you around as long as possible." She turned her back, feeling emotional and pushing it back as far as possible. "Maybe I’ll get there eventually, but that means more school for me, and I’m not ready to go back to grad school yet." Bernie began grilling their sandwiches as the soup finished simmering. "You’re right. I need to go out and have fun. I’m not sure I even know what fun is anymore."
Kieran rolled his eyes. "I'm not going anywhere so you don't have to worry about me." He nodded, understanding why she wouldn't want to go back to school. Kieran, himself, could even manage to get his bachelor's degree, much less go to graduate school. "You really should like...go wild or something. After making me soup though."
Hmm that I can do, I wonder how loud she’ll scream when she sees him getting blood all over her fancy house. Oh yeah I knew him, guy had a hard on for magic like you wouldn’t believe.
A chainsaw? I want this to be at least a little realistic, she has to think its really them. Maybe some deadly office supplies. Do you know about any maybe tragic things about her? Being that you’ve lived here longer I guess you would hear more rumors about her than I have.

You still have to admit the image is a good one. Tragic? Well, everyone pretty much knows she's a bitter cunt because some vamps killed her husband. That was before her kid was born I think. Or maybe a little after. I can't remember.
"I feel like I’m never drunk enough." She flashed a smile.
Zora was still pretty new to town, and she had mostly kept to herself. She had been hearing whispers around about a body found mauled at the festival. She was curious about it, but she had been so busy trying to sort her own life she didn’t really bother asking around.

Kieran snorted. Wasn't that the truth? It was something his sister never understood, but this stranger did. Never drunk enough.
His smile faded at the mention of the body. "You mean the body I found at the town festival." He shrugged, trying to play it cool. "And no, I wasn't referring to that. Or I wasn't referring to just that. I mean he was missing for a while...we all figured he was dead anyway. And he was an asshole. So that hardly even matters."
He knocked back another glass and looked down at it. "This town has been a real shit hole the past month. Or maybe longer. Maybe forever."

Zora shifted in her stool. “Yeah, I work at the morgue.”
"Something about hanging around a bunch of lifeless bodies who can’t talk shit to you just soothes me." She chuckled.
Zora could see Kieran was masking a slight uncomfortability with the topic at hand. She always forgot how weird it was to talk about death to normal people; whatever normal meant. She tapped her long, black nails on the bar counter, unsure of how to continue the conversation.
This was always her problem once she actually got to talking to someone - she never knew how to act. She didn’t want to scare this guy off, she was actually enjoying his company. It felt like a long time since she’d actually had an interaction with another living person.
"Are," she paused, trying to form her sentence carefully. "Are you okay?"
Kieran chuckled. "Guess that's the upside to a job like that." His job was the complete opposite. Working at a club meant voices everywhere, usually drunk voices, apt to talking shit about any number of subjects. "I'd get paranoid sitting in a room with a bunch of dead bodies. I watch too many horror films for my own good." It made it easier to joke about it, to come across as aloof. As a wolf and as a man, he very much hated his aversion to dead bodies. But he'd seen too many that he recognized.
At the question, he looked over at her and nodded. "Yeah, I'm good. Just not drunk enough yet," he said, grinning before taking another drink. And really, he was fine. "It's just been a shitty month."
Even better I can make her think she is seeing them which means I can control what they do or say. Oh Mattie? Yeah that will be an interesting thing to play with since I knew him. Oh did you? Mind giving me some gory details?

Yeah I did. It was pretty gross. He was all torn open around his chest, like something had just clawed at him until he was dead. You knew the guy? I never did.

"Kieran, you may have things under control, but other people may not." She finished getting the sandwiches ready and went to stir the soup. "The pack is still pretty flustered. But people do seem to be managing. Fortunately we can outrun humans, so no one has really gotten caught breaking curfew." Bernie turned to her brother and laughed at his comments about her students. "It’s extra money," she said with a shrug, as if that explained it all. "Not yet I don’t. I really need to find a life though."
"So worry about other people." He nodded. The ability to outrun any of the authorities who would have them shut inside was definitely useful. As it was, he still ran around the woods every night without any trouble. "Yeah, yeah. I still think you should be teaching at the university level. Don't they let you go on sabbatical and shit like that?" His sister really did need to find a life. "Yeah, like maybe go out sometimes and have fun instead of sitting here and worrying about everything. You'd probably have an ulcer or five if you weren't a wolf."
Well I am one for the dramatics if you don’t know me well enough yet, and I do believe there are enough dead in this town to want to be seen. Who better to see them but the bitch who is wasting time and resources on a dumb ass curfew instead of fining the murderer?
Who doesn’t like some mind games right? Maybe she’ll go crazy and we can have her committed.
You can make her see dead people? Like that kid in The Sixth Sense? It'd be pretty creepy if she saw that old campaign manager of hers. And I'm the one who found him dead so I know what he looked. It wouldn't be pretty if she saw him.

I thought that would get your attention, I was unlawfully detained and I don’t like being caged. Now this mayor sits a little too pretty for my liking so I wanna drive her slightly mad. And I haven’t been able to do a good hex on someone for a really long time. Some tells me she has a weak mind that can be…altered.

She set the soup on to simmer and turned her attention to the sandwiches. "Oh you know. Teaching summer school. That will be over soon and then there will be a couple of weeks break before school starts up again. Other than that, not much."
"Yeah but you don't have to worry. I've got things under control." He shrugged. "Some of them could. There aren't a ton of jobs though. Can't be picky anymore." He listened to his sister talk about summer school. "I don't know how to do it. Dealing with the brats all summer. And the dumb ones who couldn't pass their classes at that. You got plans for your break?"

"Yeah, two. When I should be sleeping. I’m usually up worrying about the pack, or craving something ridiculous that Mom used to make." Bernie made her way through the store, glad to be spending time with her brother. "I don’t want to know what you do at 2 am. I’ll just worry more." At home, she smiled at his grin, grateful that he’d at least carried in the bags. She gathered her ingredients and started preparing the soup. "Alright, talk. It’s been too long. What’s up with you?"
"Worry? You don't have to worry about what I do. I'm a big boy." Once in the kitchen, he hoisted himself so he could sit on the counter. He wasn't sure how to answer the question. "Not much. Interviewed for a job a few towns over. Working at another club. There's no curfew there, so I figure i can were there at night and then come back here in the morning." He shrugged. "What have you been up to?"
I want you to stay away from me and my home. Because don’t make take back what I said. I can keep you locked up on ever full moon.
