Final Blog Post - SA104
Look at the three works you produced in SA104 and other work you did for school this semester. Does anything emerge that ties the work in SA104 to work you did in another class? This could be themes, formal elements or any other thing that you can perceive. It doesn’t matter if it is perceptible to everyone as long as it’s perceptible to you and you can talk about it. Tell us about these connections.
I think one definite connection is a childish theme. Not so much with project 1, but 2 and 3, and my projects in my SA102 and 103 classes. Most of my pieces are inspired by things from my childhood or toys kids generally enjoy. For one piece, a transfer drawing, I used shapes from a My Little Pony coloring book, and another is a cardboard miniature sculpture of the Disney Cinderella Castle, both things I loved as a kid and still do now.
Being sick most of my life, I kind of feel I lost a lot of my childhood, and while I am an adult, and need to act as such, I feel as though I relive that childhood through my art, using themes or materials from kids toys and stories. Except for probably project 4, however Lamby (the stuffed lamb toy) has an old "loved" look favorite toys have. The childish idea of toys coming to life I felt also applied.
It's a theme I just really enjoy, particularly since I hope to work for Disney, and I'll probably continue throughout my time at OU. They are silly ideas, but that is what I love about them. Anything that can make people smile or brighten their day is an art style I wish to posses.
