falling back onto my seph-hermes habits (likely place for me to be frankly) for @chrysanthemumgames 's 6th anniversary, went back and forth trying to figure the what, and rifling through various fine art references. i settled on klimt's the kiss, which is the very obvious inspiration!
was thinking about doing something big and blowout-y for only the release, and leaving the anniversary, since i feel like i'm all over the place right now. buuuut i realised this will very likely be the last 'foa anniversary' while a book is still being written, i am very wistful and bittersweet about it all. in the end, i wound up opening a document and thinking, 'no, i've got to do something!'
if it's not obvious from literally everything i do, i very dearly love this IF. cheers to you jess, for all your hard work in the last few years, and the love you pour into how you write this game, giving outsiders their own little place in the underworld :)

Today is, in fact, the 6th anniversary of me starting FoA, and I don't have anything for it except to say that I'm still making my way through writing the epilogue of BotL.

SO, reading the book 4 demo as an A-romancer and genuinely: jesus fucking christ. AT LEAST you've been kinda given the option to try to back off from A this time around - but A is instead the one who is an ass? They're refusing to leave the MC be???? HEELLO?? I mean MC's internal dialogue is still...kinda pathetic low-key bc it's ALL about A but at least you can kinda not show it to everyone around you?? But A is like seriously just str8 up flirting w you after pulling that shit of kissing the MC and then being all angsty about how they can't be together in book 3??? I'm going insane??

It's been a while, huh?
A lot has happened since I last posted on Tumblr. I scrapped the majority of Book 2, and essentially rewrote the entire game from scratch. The project as it stands today is one I'm more confident about, and writing it has been a much smoother experience than the original. The current public demo stands at 586k words altogether, and covers events until well into Chapter 11, which will be Book 2's penultimate chapter.
If you've read the old demo, there will be a lot of familiar story beats--for example, we'll still be visiting locales such as Reglaire, Aulain, and Yotai, all of which are present in the old demo. However, the prose within these sections will have received a considerable overhaul, if not rewritten entirely.
The game also now spends plenty of time in Thulrum (as in the city itself, rather than the skycity of Arcadia), with the hope of making this new base of the mage's feel more lived-in, and give more concrete stakes to the choice between Param and Arcadia.
