the thing is, ryan & shane & especially tesla-owning gold steak-eating caviar worshipping steven are not the starving artists that you’re pushing the narrative towards. there are videos out there (specifically moistcritikal’s) who crunched the estimated numbers down. they ARE getting paid; it’s impossible that they’re not. they have 10k+ members on patreon, they went on live tours around the US, they’re sponsored by a fuck ton of companies in their videos, they have ads in their vids & they are partners with youtube, and their vids are monetized.
the problem here is that they can’t manage their production costs. and now they’re turning to their mostly broke college student of an audience (like me) to give them money to support whatever “creative endeavors” they plan on doing (which is, in hindsight, unnecessary given that most fans subscribed because of their personalities and not over-edited netflix crap).
also, six dollars isn’t exactly affordable – if your white american ass can think outside the box for a minute. a lot of watcher’s fans aren’t from the US. take me for example, i live in the philippines. six dollars is around 344 pesos, that’s like two-three days worth of allowance for me (and i’m middle class; i know people with much lower allowance than that who go to school with me). how about those in the lower part of the pyramid? how much money do they make? and how much are they reliant on free content on youtube for entertainment?
all i’m seeing here is errors in budgeting. ya’ll done fucked up & you’re scrambling to your fans to support whatever tv-level ass of a series you wanna make (this is YOUTUBE, go get a fucking license or something if you want to make a TV show!).
watcher is done. greed isn’t gonna take your husband’s company far. no amount of defending their actions will. everyone in that company and all adjacents are tone-deaf to the real reason why subscribers are upset, and it seems there’s no waking you up from that. after all, you and your husband and his company live in a los angeles white trash bubble who is blissfully unaware of their fans’ living conditions.
