Unnati's messages healed me a bit. We were school friends from circumstance. Not particularly close or distant, but lots of overlap from simply being in boarding school for several years.
I was surprised to see this message and it made me cry. Though I centered my movement through the world in kindness, as I grew up I sometimes felt sad I wasted my childhood focusing on being "good", and tolerating cruelty around me. Since the mean kids who left scars to the rest simply say "I'm a different person now, what does it matter?"
Had I simply been taken advantage of and forgotten as soon as I disappeared?
I am not in the same place anymore where I am unable to leave a room of cruelty. But I've been beaten down over the years that I am intimidated of the world to proactively approach with kindness. I simply swerve away and hold myself in solitude.
But in this last year or so, I reconnect with people from my past, the closer friends and coexisting friendly acquaintances. We embrace gently with warm smiles. We've explored life a little and come back together.
I am so lucky. I am so grateful. I am so surprised. I am remembered for my kindness, along with strange funny quirks. I was seen more than I realised, and I'm remembered in passing platonic love.
It's all I have hoped for, once I have passed.
I have always known what I want my legacy to be. Kindness. This message reinforced that. I'm grateful it found me when it did.
