This concept is good. This concept is so heavily foreshadowed throughout the entire game. The idea that nobody is who they think they are is very strongly laid out.
I posted the screenshot in an earlier part of my replay but this explanation parallels this scene in chapter four (which is unavoidable)
Given that Season 11 is the first one to drop the weird subtitles, I think it's fair to assume that 11 is when they took real people on board. But we also have no real way of knowing.
The problem I have is with how K1-B0 is incorporated into the concept.
Contextually: K1-B0 is the audience surrogate. We are told that his eyes are the camera for the audience (shown here - which is something that the characters DON'T see so we can be sure of its legitimacy)
The audience directly controls K1-B0 through regular votes, as well:
And finally: the audience absolutely hate that Shuichi, Maki, and Himiko decide to just stand there silently in the trial and refuse to engage with it.
But... if K1-B0 is controlled by the audience, we can find out what the audience want to see in Danganronpa! So we can gain insight into what kinds of super cool things they think is worth watching.
At the beginning of the game someone has to do a murder or everyone dies. With a bloodthirsty group of people watching, surely they either want to do a kill or be around where they think the interesting things will be happening.
Instead they... chose to send K1-B0 to vibe alone in his room seconds before everyone would die.
The audience voted to have K1-B0 stand around in his bedroom and do nothing.
They then vote for him to repeatedly be intimate with Miu.
And then he joins a cult.
Two of these three results make complete sense for an unhinged audience of angsty teenagers. The first one does not, especially since they then get mad at Shuichi for doing exactly what they voted to do.
K1-B0 never witnesses ANYTHING to do with the trials or evidence gathering. He is the worst POV to get the story from. The one interesting thing he does narratively is after he hits his head and gains free will. Which the audience complained about.
The solution to this is... just don't have K1-B0 be the camera for the audience. The real life Reality TV Show Big Brother did a twist where one of the players could only vote for people or nominate people that the audience wanted him to. The story was still told from the typical perspective of "cameras in every room". It was just a fun gimmick. The Nanokumas should have been the audience cameras, and K1-B0 just be the gimmick.
Essentially all the problems begin and end with them botching K1-B0, as the narrative hinges on the idea that he's supposed to be seeing all the interesting stuff. While Shuichi is explicitly cast to be the protagonist:
So they cast a protagonist, and then the camera proceeded to... not see any of his bonding with Kaito or Maki.
The reveal could have been brilliant but they just did this one extra detail that completely unravels the entire concept.
