reading the new kohane event on ensekai.. they’ve fully given up on pretending kohane events aren’t just about advancing the general (lackluster) vbs plot without adding anything substantial to kohane’s character despite being HER focus. it’s totally a self inflicted problem the writing team has created but it annoys me every time there’s absolutely nothing for kohane to challenge within herself besides the same nebulous “music makes my heart pound” idea from the main story. for god’s sake she needs to sometimes be greedy and sometimes fail so she can actually learn something and feel like a real person. if you refuse to knock your characters down it doesn’t really mean anything to see them succeed
project sekai should update their 3d models but i’m not a fan of when ppl suggest they should make the proportions more realistic.. like the things people suggest (more musculature, longer limbs, smaller heads) seem like they’re honestly more in service of pushing the minority of male characters towards a more mature look at the expense of the game’s established style. if i wanted enstars looking models i would probably just play enstars yknow?? i like that the characters lean more cute, i’d just like the physics and costume details to get an update

what are the implications of tsukasa being fully aware that he lets rui get away with doing crazy experiments at school… really i think the point of the wl3 dialogue with an is that tsukasa is willing to put an incredible amount of faith in his collaborators, which is what makes him so wonderful in his interactions with the rest of the cast. it’s the whole reason toya feels so indebted to tsukasa; tsukasa goes into every interaction assuming, “if you really care about this thing and you have a clear idea of what you want to do, why wouldn’t you do it?” which sounds simple but it’s so freeing to hear that from another person, and he gives it away so freely
it’s so cute seeing tsukasa acknowledge that he just nags without actually getting in the way of what rui wants to do. what a softie. and he’s so enamored with rui’s stage effects in a way that’s beyond just, like, being dazzled by a magic trick, but tsukasa really is always thinking in terms of their shows and how these contraptions fit into the stories they’re telling, and it’s like he always sees the vision and the brilliance behind the madness and comes back for more
completely unsurprising that rui finds a way to make toya’s birthday about tsukasa instead of normally wishing him a happy birthday.. “there’s literally a whole event where rui helps toya” ah well you’re forgetting that rui and toya made that about tsukasa too (the cupcakes were for the tenmas, rui wanted to see if he could help because tsukasa was so excited about the dinner). rui and toya happen to be the two people in the world most likely to make something about tsukasa other than the pegasus man himself……
together okinimesumama + bokura mada underground (i always think of them together since they share the “1, 2 signal” line) are like the ruikasa songs ever to me… they always make me think of rui in particular and it haunts me that okinimesumama was one of the first wxs covers despite not being an obvious genre match, AND it’s a cover that highlights rui and tsukasa??
afaik they started recording the covers fairly early with sweet magic being recorded before either rui or tsukasa were even cast, so i wonder how far back okinimesumama was chosen for wxs / when rui and tsukasa even got the 1-2 nickname… and then there’s the name of ruikasa’s third kizuna rank in the lyrics to bokura mada underground. i could be so crazy about this if i wanted to be. it doesn’t have to be that deep but also it is that deep to me personally
ppl in the youtube comments being surprised at the song choice reminding me that not everyone is as intensely wxspilled as i am bc it fully did not occur to me that anyone could look at the lyrics to bokura mada underground in the context of this game without thinking of rui

i probably rag on kohane too much but like. it baffles me how the same game will do the “cute quiet girl with hidden potential” thing competently with one unit and then totally fuck it up in another. it’s like they can’t stand to have kohane behave like a real person with real relationships… she has school friends who are cute and nice. she likes taking photos and has a pet snake? none of these are real personality traits or flaws; even her sole “flaw” of anxiety/shyness is pretty easily waved off and only really comes up when the game wants to emphasize how cute and tiny and innocent she is. her most important relationship is with an, but an does all the emotional heavy lifting when it comes to her feelings while kohane is just kind of there. and we’re supposed to understand that an has these incredibly conflicted feelings about kohane’s role in her life and community but at the same time an is the one who fawns over kohane the most so don’t worry, she can never ACTUALLY have a problem with kohane! she’s just frustrated with herself! for god’s sake how does the unit’s representative character manage to exist without any discernible emotional depth or complexity
nene is so so so cute and funny and it grinds my gears when i think people aren’t appreciating her correctly or turning her into a self insert or a bland boring shy girl because she’s NOT… she’s shy and quiet but she’s also competitive and distrustful and highly critical. she’s never looking for someone else to save her or defend her from whatever the fuck! she’s got an honestly mean, deadpan sense of humor around her good friends and her whole story is about becoming more independent and confident in her abilities. she’s grown so much that her anxiety no longer defines her and she is continually challenging herself even when it’s hard, she’s becoming someone that her peers trust and look up to!
i haaaate the idea that some people seem to have of nene being frozen as this uwu cute little thing. she’s cute but she’s not helpless. respect her as someone with her own goals and journey!!!!!!!! she is a force to be reckoned with!!

idk if i’ve ever fully articulated how i see each wxs member’s arc and their needs but i have thought about this more than any sane adult should
tsukasa has always been self sufficient out of necessity since saki understandably required so much of their parents’ attention. he’s used to relying on himself AND being the person that others (saki, toya) depend on, so of course the first time he actually teams up with other people, it goes sideways and he doesn’t know how to handle it. he has the motivation and ability to be a spectacular performer but most people don’t take him seriously or know how to challenge him the way he wants to be challenged, and he struggles the most with his own limitations/not being able to power through everything with sheer force of will. he’s also still not super comfortable being vulnerable or allowing himself to lean on others -> he needs to come to terms with the fact that he isn’t actually a superhero but also he has capable people supporting him who see how hard he’s working all the time
emu is self sacrificial and idealistic! because she’s a pampered youngest daughter, she’s been free to let her imagination run wild and it’s this double edged sword where on one hand she still believes in a version of the world that is good and kind and hopeful, but she’s also not really prepared to handle it if things don’t work out the way she plans -> she needs to learn the nuts and bolts and practical considerations that will enable her to make her dreams come true; she’s incredibly fortunate to have been born with so many resources but she’s only just starting to understand what that means and how to wield the power that she has. her dream of keeping the wonder stage and pxl alive is fundamentally about protecting and sustaining spaces that bring joy and wonder and delight to the world, which is why she’s on track to become something like a producer. whereas the rest of wxs are creatives and artists, emu’s journey is about using her resources to create a world in which creatives and artists can thrive
nene is pretty consistently represented by a little songbird learning to fly and leave the nest. she’s always had exceptional musical talent but her social anxiety holds her back. which doesn’t just mean she’s scared of other people (true) but it also means she has a habit of judging people and situations too quickly and jumping to conclusions. she assumes that other people don’t want to see her succeed, that her more outgoing peers don’t want her as a friend, but that’s not true at all!!! -> nene grows the most in situations where she’s pushed outside her comfort zone and realizes that a lot of people value her skill and companionship once she allows them to get to know her. she also needs to encounter singers who are more experienced than she is, because she can sometimes grow complacent when everyone else her age doesn’t have the same training and ability as she does / she’s HIGHLY competitive and has to have people around her pushing and motivating her to keep getting better and better
rui is used to being punished for being different whether that’s him being an engineering prodigy or his love for theatre. he’s specifically been taught to think of himself as a monster ie someone who endangers the people around him just by being who he is, which is why he’s so isolated before wxs. he’s incredibly driven and motivated and there’s no world in which he does not put on shows because that’s just a core part of his self expression, to the point that he finds a way to practice his craft without involving any other humans (since he doesn’t want to put anyone at risk) -> he needs to learn that his eccentricity and creativity is a strength and that there are people out there who will embrace those parts of him. like nene, he benefits from meeting people with more experience who can show him new ways to grow, but also i actually think he’s the closest to being fully realized since he’s come to accept how precious wxs is to him. he’s found people who really see him and that’s given him permission to be as free and creative as he can be, now that he has the security of a place to come home to
ruikasa is so fucking good i’m sorry to everyone but i have to make everything about ruikasa. the showfreakism of it all. both of them are totally off their rockers in this hyperspecific way where they not only make each other more bold and ambitious but they also make each other sharper as director/actor. they’re kinda adrenaline junkies but specifically for theatre; they can only be as gonzo as possible when they work together and therefore rui is happiest when designing effects and directing for tsukasa and tsukasa shines most brilliantly when he gets to perform something truly insane with rui. it’s not only that they understand each other creatively but there’s a way that they find real creative fulfillment by working together. it’s the joy of finding a true accomplice and partner after thinking you had to figure it all out for yourself for so long… each of them had the drive to do incredible things on their own but if they hadn’t found each other i don’t think either of them would have realized there was someone else that could match that ambition and go even further

KILLING MYSELF!!!! they put fucking EVERYTHING into these line reads. congratulations hirose daisuke for managing to say rui’s name in the saddest possible way… the way tsukasa tries his hardest to put on a brave face and be enthusiastic for rui before absolutely crumbling, and then trying to pull himself together again after emu and nene give their support. but even then he can’t say rui’s name without his voice cracking… oh man
it’s actually crazy how stone fucking cold rui is with arcland and asahi… like obv i knew this when wl2 first came out but the way he talks to asahi is so polite and professional and his heart is simply not in it
maybe unpopular opinion but honestly i’m not too bothered if they never go back to asahi’s offer because even though wl2 is a dream, the game itself is pretty much closing the book on the possibility of rui taking the offer by making it clear how unhappy rui would have been. there’s not really much to explore beyond what’s already shown here. rip asahi tho nobody has ever been more coworkerzoned
