NUBBINS SAWYER X CHILDHOOD FRIEND!GN!READER!!!
SMALL-FIC: NOT REALLY PROOFREAD!!
When your family moved to Texas, you were only six years old. It was a fresh start for you and your family, but along the way you met the Sawyers. The Sawyers were a family who worked at the Slaughterhouse. It didn’t take long before they became a family friend. At that point you found yourself spending a lot of time with Nubbins and his twin brother Robert. The three of you always got into mischief, and when it was just you and Nubbins, the chaos didn’t stop!! You’d spend your days searching for animal bones, or finding anything you two could get into.
You and Nubbins were attached at the hip, you’d always be over at the Sawyers they were practically a second family! From sleepovers to dinner, you were over at the Sawyers a lot.
Unfortunately that came to an end a few years later. You had found home, and a second family here in Texas, you were only fourteen when your parents said you guys were moving across the country. Absolutely devastated you ran all the way to the Sawyers, pounding on the door like a madman. Drayton answered the door, looking rather annoyed “Don’tcha know any better than to pound on the door like you’re gettin’ chased! goddamnit.” he was always rather rough, but it didn’t mean he didn’t care.
Out of breath you panted out an apology before begging to talk to Nubbins. Drayton let you in and you ran all throughout the house until you bumped into Nubbins. He couldn’t help but cackle a bit, “Damn [reader], you almost knocked me down! Whatcha in a rush for?” Nubbins had a speech impediment that made him stutter through his words, but it was part of what made him, him. But today was different, there was no laughter from you, “Nubbins, me and my family are moving across the country.” it didn’t take long before Nubbins cackling subsided and there was a period of silence.
The last week before you moved was a somber one, you still spent all the time you could with the Sawyers. They were your home away from home and you wouldn’t be able to see them after you moved. Things were different upon knowing you were moving, but they all tried to make it normal. There was one last sleepover before you had to get on the road, you made it last. Huddled in the Sawyer’s living room, you and Nubbins were chatting about random stuff, then it eventually shifted to your move.
“Hey Nubbins.” You caught his attention and he stared at you with his usual gaze. “Yeah, whats up??” he let out a slight cackle from the previous conversation the two of you were having.
“Do you think you’d remember me if I moved back in the future?” You looked down, but Nubbins just shoved you, “Won’t you stop thinkin’ about all that!! Of course i’d remember you.” he clearly didn’t wanna talk about the move, but he still had his energy that you were used to.
The last day came faster than you wanted, but still you walked to the Sawyers, saying your last goodbye before you were off into the world. You held a handmade bracelet in the palm of your hand. Gripping it like your life depended on it, the beads digging into your skin, leaving circular indents in response.
“The day came quicker than any of us thought. Y’know you weren’t half bad, kid.” Drayton stared at you, crossing his arms. He had treated you like family once you got close with the Sawyers. “I hope you can save the Slaughterhouse..” You wished them luck with the Slaughterhouse. Then your eyes shifted, The twins were both staring at you, although their energy was still consistent there was a hint of disappointment, almost mourning. While Bubba had practically been around you since he was an infant, so he wasn’t dealing with your move very well.
“We’ll catch you around” Robert wrapped his arm around your shoulders. “When you get back we’ll go find some stuff to burn!!” he squeezed your shoulder tightly before letting you go. “Yeah.. That sounds good.” You gave a soft smile, trying to hide the disappointment in your voice. “Cya bubs.” You looked at Bubba, he looked especially sad, the boy crushed you with a hug, “Aye, get off them Bubba, they’ve gotta get goin’ now!” Drayton got after Bubba, who was still crushing you for a second longer.
You looked at Nubbins last, he took a step forward with a grin on his face. “Heh, you look like you’re about to cry, [reader]!” he cackled slightly. “No i’m not” you scoffed, still the bracelet stayed clasped in your hand.
“[reader]!! Hurry up with your goodbyes!! We gotta go now before it gets too dark!!” You look at your parents who were already packed up and ready to go. Then you returned to look at Nubbins, “Wait Nubbins, before I go..” you close your distance with him until you two were barely apart, “Here, I made it for you. I thought you’d like it.” opening your hand you held out the beaded bracelet, the dark red clay circular beads trembling in your nervous hand.
Nubbins gladly took it though, before nudging you in the arm. “Now you wont forget me.” You smiled before pulling him into a hug.
You were almost to your parents before you stopped, turning back to the Sawyers house, Nubbins and Robert were still there, but Drayton and Bubba had gone inside. “Cmon kiddo, we don’t have all day!” your parents spoke up, visibly ready to get on the road. “Wait.” You begged of them before rushing back towards the Sawyers.
Nubbins was confused when you came running back, but his mind quickly shifted when you gave him a small kiss on the lips. No regrets, you thought to yourself.
That was the last time you ever saw the Sawyers. the last time you saw Nubbins, your best friend.
You grew a lot, and you were moving back to Texas, back to your childhood home. It had changed a lot, and you heard about the Slaughterhouse closing down. You weren’t even certain the Sawyers even still lived there. Before you drove to your childhood house, you stopped at a Gas station. Hopping out of the car, you made your way into the Gas station. The Texas heat was beating down on you and you couldn’t help but wipe your brow. Everything stopped when you saw who worked there, Drayton Sawyer. You didn’t even think he’d recognize you but still you stepped over to him, “Hey Drayton!” you were so glad to see an old family friend.
Drayton glanced at you for a moment, observing you as if to determine who you were. Then it clicked, “Well I’ll be damned. If it isn’t [reader].” he crossed his arms for a minute, “What can I do for ya?”
After catching up and getting Gas refilled, you agreed to catch up with the family. Your stomach twisted into knots at the thought of seeing Nubbins again. Guess feelings stuck after all these years.
When you made it to the Sawyer household it was.. Different, guess people aren’t the only ones who’ve changed throughout the year. Inside changed even more, you wouldn’t make any comments out of respect. But you couldn’t help but hold your breath for a second upon dust and the suspicious scent of death creeping up on you. “Yeah, it’s different, we lost the Slaughterhouse.” Drayton seemed to almost read your mind, “I heard, I’m sorry about that.”
Didn’t take long for the other Sawyer brothers to notice your presence. Even if it took a bit, they recognized you.
You noticed Nubbins still wore the bracelet you gave him all those years back and you couldn’t help but feel a smile tug on your lips.
After a nice dinner, albeit it tasted different than you remembered, you and Nubbins sat outside on the porch. Nubbins was extra fidgety than he used to be, he always seemed to be cackling over one thing or the other, just way more chaotic than you remembered. But hey, it was still the Nubbins you loved. “It’s been years.” You glanced at him out of the corner of your eyes, “I almost thought you were dead!” his speech impediment made him stammer over words, a slight cackle escaping his lips as he smiled wildly.
“You wanna see some photos I took?!?” He opened the animal skin pouch around his neck, pulling out some polaroids, “Oh or, or I can take a photo of you?!?” Nubbins dropped the polaroids on the porch, lifting up his camera and aiming it at your face. It didn’t take long for him to start snapping shots of you and you couldn’t help but blush.
You silenced him with another kiss though, this time he didn’t just stay still.. This time he kissed back, mashing your guys lips together for a moment before separating and laughing slightly. “Oh you taste so sweet” He licked his lips.
Unfortunately it didn’t take long before you figured out their cannibalistic ways, you were frightened to say the least, even though they tried to explain. That ended up with you locked up until you learned to accept it, they wouldn’t kill you though. You were part of their family, but they would keep you from telling anyone.
Don’t worry though!! When you accept it, it will all be back to normal!! Plus you do get special treatment as a captive. Nubbins still spends time with you, and even though you were afraid, you knew they wouldn’t hurt you and you came around to their new ways of life.
A/N: I APOLOGIZE IF ITS NOT VERY GOOD!! IM STILL GETTING BACK INTO MY WRITING GRIND SO IM PRETTY RUSTY!! THANK YOU FOR REQUESTING!!! - Kerberos <3
