Getting the hiker funk off in the Deschutes before heading into Bend for some kayaking and good beer. (at Deschutes River)

After giving a hitch to a few PCT thrus into town, we headed to Crater Lake. Never knew there was a road surrounding it. Nixed the backpacking idea and tossed in a short trail run along the rim. Not a bad view, even with the road. 🚗🚲🚙🚌 (at Crater Lake National Park)

I've used several water purification techniques over the years: Aqua Mira, bleach, and Steripens to name a few. My current preferred tool is the Sawyer Mini. You can use the Mini as a straw on your clean bottle, or maintain separate dirty bottles/platys and screw the Mini directly to them. Here, @claytonstring filters water from his dirty bottle to his clean off Rafferty Creek in Yosemite. For a liter, this only takes a couple minutes of squeezing. The Sawyer Mini is both faster and lighter (under 3oz) than systems I've used in the past. Plus there are no moving parts to break, no batteries, nothing to replace, and it costs only $20.

Had a great weekend backpacking through the Guadalupe Mountains in West Texas with @claytonstring. We encountered steep climbs, extreme heat and sun exposure, powerful storms, and breath-taking vistas. Here, Clayton repels the Sun's mighty UV rays with a chrome dome umbrella as we descended Bear Canyon with a storm brewing behind us, and another out in front.
