The state fair was in town in October of 1978. And here you also see Samford's highly touted debate team, which earned a top 10 ranking in a contest of more than 100 schools, defeating debate powers like Harvard and MIT along the way.

The rusty hook and flecking paint of the porch swing at my great-grandparents' home, where they lived most of their 61 years together before he died of cancer. She lived another 10 years before she passed away. As with his service, we buried her ourselves. The farm belongs to their son now, but it isn't quite the same without the joyful noises of the gentleman and gentle lady that raised a family there.
